I dunno, but when a shit load of people I see in clubs look like they came out of a koodo add I start to think it's an actual legitimate trend. I find it horrible and quite ugly... WTF is up with people, mullets and handlebar mustaches? Hasn't anyone learned from the 80s at all?

What's next the return of cockrock along with hairspray and fugly outfits that would make the guys from Twisted Sister feel right at home?

To each his own, but this trend is just fucking [ www. ]

Since everything good looking has been deemed fashionable, people are turning to ugly ass clothes to differentiate themselves from the rest of the ugly ass clothed crowd. Unfortunately, like everything in life, these peeps go overboard and try to do every style " TO THE EXTREEEEEME !!! "

That usually results in a EPIC CLOTHING FAIL.

I dunno, but it suits me fine... I will admit I'm somewhat of a fashon victim. But not in the sense that I follow trends, more in the sense that I like to dress well. I dont follow trends, I go with what I like and I dont give a fuck what the "in" crowd thinks, as long as I feel good it's all that matters.

In the later nineties EC8OR was saying the same kind of thing about ravers with "Discriminate the Next Fashion Sucker - It's A Raver!" off their eponymous album. Now look, there's all these confused candy-kids following a burnt-out and necrotic dream while the rest of us still own leftover phat pants and futilely try to keep the same old "vibe" alive; that which never actually existed, amd was just the thrill of novelty. So-called "Rave culture" always struck me as quite excessively consumerist, middle-class, and superficial, and used to be what was dictated by the magazines and mass culture. Vice magazine used to feature tons of ads for Snug, Fiction, Phat Farm, Killah, UFO, Kikwear, before morphing into the hipster bible it became since the 80s throwback of 2001.

Vice certainly contributed a lot to the hipster ethic with all its advertising and cynical self-loathing nihilistic way of doing journalism. If you've ever seen the Vice guides to travel, there are a few that are really good, but all in all they're just trying to get themselves fame by doing risky things and continuing to act like a douchebag while in these risky situations. Suroosh Alvi's journey in Pakistan is amazing, that jerk with the suit going to some place in Africa is most certainly disgusting. However I've felt for some time that the sort of "too cool to care" attitude was going too far, and man did it ever hit us when we were doing parties at Pote:tr or Lab Synthe up at Van Horne and Parc.

Wolf Parade, who are now becoming out-of-control popular with the so-called hipsters, once dropped in at the end of a party we had decided to close down and move elsewhere or just end, acting like the lack of people indicated failure, and kicked our DJ off the tables so they could plug in their iPods and be a bunch of douches. We told them we didn't give a shit how big they thought they were, they still sucked shit, and the war began. After a run of successful parties some idiot I knew threw an all out 80s music hipster party and got the place closed down after a bunch of apathetic jerks refused to stop drinking their beer outside the establishment, drawing undue attention. They kind of shrugged it off like it was nothing.

The thing is, any of us could easily turn into a hipster if we became just a bit more egocentric, fashionable, consumerist, and detached from anything but the world of stylemakers. It's always best to stick to what you love and fuck what everybody else tells you is cool. That's why I've always listened to music too weird to become popular. Safe strategy.

Why don't they ever mention how a lot of the time hipsters are also fucking crazed coke addicts and suggest that coke maybe sort of makes you a bit apathetically too cool for school over time?
