It is. I think they'll adopt that law to show al linternational parties involved that, yes, Canada is doing its part in fighting piracy...

... but once the dust settles, no one will try to apply it to any rigorous extent.

Yeah, I still don't wanna be the first to be made an example of. Y'know, like those moms sued in US courts by the RIAA...

Heh, I'll still turn off uTorrent for a few days :)

this is not a big deal people, even if they did snag you downloading 200gigs of music or videos, the only thing would make them try and bust you (in our country anyways) is if you openned a music cd store or video store... in other words, they arent going to crack down on pirates, they intend on cracking down on people who try and profit from it. That being said, even if they did try and purrrrsue the fruitless prospect of personal end users, good luck proving where its from, how it got there and which story is a lie(this is assuming that most of the peeps on this forum are smart enough to hide that shit)... we are still safe in Canada for now...

quote : Le Canada est signataire des conventions des Nations unies sur la protection de la propriété intellectuelle, mais il ne dispose pas encore de politique concrète pour contrer le piratage sur Internet.

... And I was under the impression this amendment was precisely drafted to fill that lack of a "concrete policy". Let's hope you're right, ufot

Thats the old laws

The new ones: Doesnt mater where the file comes from, possession is a crime.

This law doesn't mean that everyone is going to jail. But it does mean that some peoples will get fines.
Like weed is illegal. Its impossible to catch everyone who deals with it, but if you do get caught, it could fuck your life over pretty seriously.

Frankly, I don't download/upload all that much music and don't own an ipod, so it most likely wont affect me that much.
Its for the fuckin' principle. Music should be free to circulate.
The industry should stop coercing peoples into paying for there products like we where buying apples and oranges.
The music business is going down the tubes not because millions of fans download music they love, but because the music industry still considers music like any other merchandise and would rather lobby the governments into creating new laws than readjust there whole way of doing things.
I hope this law doesn't pass, and if it does, i hope peoples will find ways of contouring it. The record industry can burn to the ground, for all i care. I'm really looking forward to see what will grow in its place.
I'm feeling misty right now..

Really, though, I've got a much better idea on how the music industry could start making money.

1: hire artists that don't make shitty music
2: price CDs resonably (they cost pennies to make)
3: stop giving your "artists" million-dollar advances that their shitty music won't make back
I'm feeling airconditioned bliss right now..
