yup... i do

I love playing one hour sets... and i aint telling a story or getting into a vibe or whatever... get to the decks and mix shit... point is, if you gotta get into a vibe, i say use the hour before your set to start visualising.... i say you gotta be into it from the second you touch the wax

You make it sound like a chore or some sort of a competition.

Chain mixing sucks. There's nothing more fun, **sarcasm alert**, for any DJ to spin 40 minutes than have an overeager DJ already throwing his shit all over the place, pushing your things aside to make some space for for his 7 CD books and 3 vinyl milk crates ( isn't he supposed to play 1h as well ? ), holding a vinyl in his hands and standing riiiiiight behind you once you reach your 50th minute as you proceed to bump into him each and everytime you move.

That's fabulous.

Now, I prefer a DJ who's relaxed, smokes a few blunts just before CALMLY making his way for the stage, takes his time to settle on the deck while chatting with friends, drink a few drinks and GET COMFORTABLE.

Makes for better sets, I feel. In one hour, you NEED to be at your prime ( i.e. stressed out of your fucking mind if you are starting out as a DJ ) to deliver the goods.

Besides, with what I just mentioned now, anyone noticed that THE SHORTER SETS GET, the more we are treated to GODDAWFUL TRAINWRECKING ?

everyone is on top of everyone to get to the dj booth. And that is when incidents happen

( i had an incident happen wher a dj fucking pulled out myhead phone jack so he can get his turn on the turntables an at that point i had only mixed about 4 or 5 records i wanted to slap him in the fucking mouth)

so more time more flexibility and great vibes
I'm feeling i love being 30 right now..

Yes. I really enjoy parties where the DJ booth looks like the " 8 articles or less " line at the supermarket.

great way of putting it and u know what u mean i have seen it too many times at parties becuase let's face we haven't see n a good RAVE in a while line ups literally at the dj booth.

but at the afterhours and most parties there are 2 or 3 dj's on friday when i went to stereo Joubin opened at 2am and got off at 6am and then d formation closed the the club at 10am the only people in the dj booth were the entourage and some clients....Everyone chilling and realxing dancing no stress...That is how it is supposed to ge.

I prefer to enter the venue where i am playing and hour in advance put my bag aside take my headphones out put them aside quietly leave the dj booth go have a beer and a smoke and when it is my turn to go up i go into the dj booth about 15min before i start chit chat with the other dj and then go on....When i am done ususally the same thing happens as the other dj enters the booth and that is HOW it should be...
I'm feeling i love being 30 right now..

how the fuck do you manage to interpret that?... I fucking hate having people in my way when i mix, no questions asked, what im saying is if you're gonna mix, it shouldnt take you a whole hour to get into it... it doesnt make sense. When i say visualise i dont mean go in the booth and get in the way, i mean see yourself mixing... its my technique thats all

aint no competition with anyone but yourself,

that wasnt my point.

Either way its not primarily the djs fault aside from choosing to accept the gig. Ive accepted gigs that look wayy decent only to return to the calendar page two days later and find 20 new djs added to the lineup of a party that is now clearly way over the promoters head... from now on I will be asking a hell of a lot more questions about the promoters intentions before I accept anything. This whole issue comes back to the promoters vision of what a decent party is and the consideration he has for his artists and guests.

Rawali, my text was NOT saying it was your behavior behind decks, dude.

I was just saying that I dealt with what I listed there too often to feel that whole " one hour set " thing.

It has noooooothing whatsoever to do with you. :)

hehe no thanks for the smoke though but sryz ive misinterpretted... didnt mean to to come off as angry on that... it was more of a confused wtf? kinda of a feel

anyway, acctually... im happy with the time ive spent mixing psy... i was getting a realatively good number of bookings... like... maybe two a month... im moving away from it cuz finding the good tracks envolves looking through an insane amount of crap... didnt want to have to go through that... I still have enough stuff to mix... still have a couple of psy bookings coming up but i do want to do things a bit differetly...

yeah anyways, dubstep is doing good, first demo coming out in 5 days on the dot and after... ten minutes into my first booking... i had a second... we'll see where this all brings me but at this point i dont feel like restricting to one style

longer dj sets are fun because the dj has time to get used to the crowd. know what makes them groove. but that only counts when it's not always all the same people in the crowd from party to party. and... well some djs already have their sets all ready and fixed so i guess it depends on the people.

in smaller parties i've seen dancefloors empty with the switch of djs, only to be even more filled, half an hour later. i think it's fun to be able to enjoy each dj set while still being able to take breaks for water and social stuff. and chillrooms.

new djs belong into house parties, where almost everyone else is a new dj too. together we become better, cricticising/helping out each other.

boom.

It all depends on the crowd and genre of music. While psy trance favors longer sets, genres like happy hardcore can easily manage with more djs playing 1h each.

uhuh you're right on this... an hour happy sandwitched between freeform and some other hardcore stuff... is what i've mostly seen in that kind of parties and it's perfect...
promoters that mix all styles don't seem to make the difference between happy and psy though.
