I was just wondering, who here work or has worked in the video games industry?, I know a lot of ravers who work in the industry, I myself work at EA(Mobile) and before that I have worked for two Videogame QA cies and wanted to see how widespread the connection between the industry and the rave scene is. Also it always nice to know a little more about who are our fellow ravers working in this industry are.

And well, my opinion about working in this industry:...I love it!...but nothing is perfect and if you had asked me 3 months ago, I would probable would have had a different opinion.
I'm feeling optimistic right now..

from personal experience (for what it is worth), subcontracting videogame QA companies really have worst working condition than big videogame companies like EA/UBIsoft/Gameloft...

and yeah, you are not the first person I hear from Vault saying that!

Even from Ubi, it depends of the lead. Gameloft is incredible in many ways but suffers from outsourcing, like most companies lately.

yea, i did the ol' testing with host in the vmc labs, very unorganised, lots of lil brats, and they layed us all off...

saying to call back in 3 months for the next contract...like cmon, CALL ME BACK for fuck sakes!

anyways, it had its fun moments, when the games were near completion.

then i went to apply at BABEL in the point, and they told me they were hiring 300 new kids quikly as possible blah blah blah,
and after my test (which was to play an uncompleted version of a shitty old driving game from a shitty stalone movie),
they told me i didnt find enough bugs in the game, and that they couldnt hire due to that!!!!

like wtf?!?!

theyre hiring little kids that never worked a day in their life, and they refuse the mature experienced guy, like fak off!

they can go to hell!

i bet theyre still hiring
I'm feeling your nuts right now..

Weird, you are not the first experienced tester I hear that was not taken by Babel,I am wondering if they ask the same thing from experienced tester than for new testers.

Babel like the other QA companies has good points and bad points. I left Babels for many reasons, but I still have lots of good memories from my time testing there and I do believe that they are the most professional of the QA companies (for what it is worth).

I worked at Gameloft (UbiSoft) for a while some time ago. First doing graphics and animation for their web games, and then mobile game graphics when they chanched their vocation. I was initialy annoyed with the boss, some french guy bent on hiearchy attitude bullshit, but the second time around I was working with a fun bunch. I like it better in a small business though.

I'm feeling kiss me, im shitface right now..

fun, but they seem to hire too much people for the amount of projects they're having. so they lay lots of people off...

I worked at VMC two summers ago. It was a fun job but like Dialect said, it was very disorganized. The job reminded me why I don't want to get an office job. It seemed like all the ratty, manipulative and socialite people would get their way while the more productive and faithful people were pushed aside.

Final opinion on VMC: If I were an upper EA guy, I would have been seriously pissed knowing that I'd be throwing my money out the window like that.

Was at gameloft, it was awesome, but so fucking underpaid and they now outsource everything to third world country... even if they do a worst job than a trisomic monkey...

I have apply to Ubi Soft a long time ago. The HR company that were doing the hiring asked me: Do you have a computer at home? And at the time i said no. And that was it, it was a no. eeerr.... i know SoftImage and 3DS Max. Whatever, in the end, i'm glad i didn't work for them because the position was for QA. fuck that. Waste of skills.

ea is the coolest cuz they made skate.
i have a real job but if you need testers for skate 2 i have a million suggestions and would do it for the love and a chance to play before it comes out.
i've found found tons of glitches in the first one even.
but yeah...
skate is the best video game ever made!!!!

Ubisoft is hell on earth trust me ... they ask you to do overtime 6 to 7 day a week and when they don’t need any more people for overtime they fire them and they will call you back 3-4 month later. Of course if you are good at what you do and become friend with any lead/manager you may stay for a longer period but… whatever. i worked there 3 years 50-60h/week before i moved to Eidos montreal where I do 40h/week with benefit, insurance, sick day, mostly no overtime and paid more than I was at ubi.
I think they are still looking for more QA/Prod job [ www.eidosmontreal.com ]
Ubisoft was a good *school* but now there is more than 1 big gaming companies.
Am not 100% sure but Vivendi Universal will open a studio in Montreal too in 1 or 2 years.
p.s
My English suck I know I hope it’s clear enough

I'm feeling palmadaire right now..
