christmas means alot to me, family, friends.. and just good ol' laughter around the dining room table.. its symbolic in so many ways.. Obviously there is the consumer aspect of the holiday season and although i do buy christmas gifts its not for the matter of buying the best gift worth the most amount of money but something that will mean something to someone and that will allow to remember me, and the moment when they received it. Christmas was initially about the birth of christ and even if i am baptised as a catholic i am quite the atheist and do not in any shape or form believe in the existence of a god as he is described in the bible. Therefore the significance of christmas, for me, is placed on the actual time spent with good people around a good meal and not on the birth of some ultimate controlling being.

Hate Christmas or not, it means that I get to come home to Mtl from my studies overseas for a full month. Booyaa. Christmas is mostly for kids and I think that it is perpetuated these days because people want their kids to have the same "magic" of it and the presents as they did growing-up. Try to tell a 6 year old why you hate Christmas and 5$ says that he won't give a shit. Yes it has become consumeristic but welcome to what funds (albeit poorly) free healthcare. For every time that you saved 1000$ in medical treatment or for that 80 000$ liver transplant that you will need later, why not buy someone you love a sticker. Small price to pay and you can make someone smile.

(well... most everyone) is off work or school or whatever... boozin and dancin and eatin tourtiere old school style... urgh... and this christmas come as a complete change of my lifestyle since i will going back to school after and leaving my fulltime job that i so incredibly hate
