Just for the record, I eat plenty of meat, probably more than the rest of you combined. But the way I see it, our brains wouldn't have evolved as much without it. As unfortunate as it may seem we should be grateful that past generations allowed us to become that which we are,..neo-humanoids, a super-species. The survival and continued evolution of our species is dependant on further mental growth which is undeniably & directly related to certain proteins which are most efficiently found in meat and fish.

I actually had a debate with a cousin of mine this weekend on the topic,... or more so on the reasoning behind a person's decision to become vegitarian. The semantics revolved around the righteousness of one's intentions not become vegitarian. We concluded that anyone who acts self-righteous because they're vegitarian could only justify it if their choice was being done purely out of love and sincerity for the animals themselves. Ironically enough alot of vegitarians are only concerned with their own personal health which is the wrong...or selfish reason to do the right thing. True love requires ultimate sacrifice. Only a person who freely sacrifices their own desires to save another is truely divine and worthy of self-righteousness.

yeah.. it's about FUR. You can't use food to debate fur, they have fuck all to do with eachother. The only thing they have in common is killing animals. We're debating whether killing animals for fur is neccessary and you're talking about food.

It would be much better if they used the meat of the animals that they skin for the fur, but they probably don't.

How can you possibly expect humans to suddenly stop this trend considering vegetarianism in humans has only become a popular trend in the past 50 years.. ? be realistic.

I agree with most of what DJneoform says, except for that. Pythagoreans were the first "vegetarian" and the term was associated with vegetarianism until the 1800s.

Hint: Pythagoras = Ancien Greece.

You asked why it's okay for lions to kill to eat but not for us to kill for fur and I said that it's okay for lions to kill to eat because they need to eat. How can you ask a stupid question based on something that has nothing to do with this and then blame me for talking about somethign that has nothing to do with this for answering.

I have much less of a problem with native people or others who live off the land who when they kill animals do not let anything go to waste, and wear the fur, use the bones as utensils, and eat the meat. There is more honor in that. I do have a problem with farms raising animals just to cut off their skin, in poor conditions where the animal suffers greatly.

I totaly agree with that. If only the animals were killed decently, it would maybe be better. But what I saw in the video, the racoon skinned alive... damn ... I found that just immoral. It's pure torture, that's what's bothering me the most.

Skinning methods could definnitely be defined as torture but at least animals killed for the pursposes of Kosher meat are supposedly killed in the least painful method possible. But I guess that's still debatable.

I'm vegetarian cause I can't stand the thought of eating somethign that died in excruciating pain, similarly I can't stand the thought of wearing something that died in excruciating pain. I don't get how anyone could feel CLEAN wearing the product of a bloody gut-ripping rampage. I mean, at least have some dignity.

I've caught, killed, skinned, cooked, and eated fish but I don't think I could say that for any other animal I've consumed.

I guess racoons would be an interesting challenge cause they're nocturnal but I doubt they'd taste good without Jack Daniels bbq sauce...
