M-Dock, ur constant muzikal whining is like a dog with no balls, useless to bitches and without reproductive purpose in the eyes of the universe... u dont like repetitive beats and have no patience for sublties, thats fine, but say it like it is, dont mask your inaptitudes or personal views with trite rederik, save us from your deliberate spewing of unecessary supposed calamities... muzik is an ever changing, always evolving type deal, with no end to the possibilities, other than ones imagination or tools... and btw, please let us know what in ur opinion is good muzik, so we can have-at that shit aswell, nothings more boring than a one sided coin that does nothing but talk about its bad side, without offering another...
oh and @trix: u sound like a complete wanker unless ur comment was a joke, which I didnt think it was, which would automatically make u a wanker... house muziks roots are in disco, incase u didnt know, and to say that all house muzik is shite or "unsophisticated" is like saying all white people are smart and kind... garbage statements my friend, belong in the garbage... Ufot-giving me breaks about tekno and the like... Ps-this isnt a spelling bee, so lay off the spelling comments u dic-gits |

finishing my undergrad in classical music composition
have records released for dance music done work for video games basically i know more about music than all you fucks Having said that dance music isn't any harder or easier than any other type of music. Every genre has its challenges. Difficulty has more to do with how many people doing a style that ends up pushing the bar higher and higher. Techno and trance aren/t any shittier than any other type of electronic music. IT is just personal taste. So murderrock , just shut the fuck up already, |

@ utof...
as long as music keeps progressing there will always be a need to step back now and re-evaluate where we've gone.... so we can figure out where were going. how else do you expect us to advance? ain't nothing wrong with enjoying the fruits of our labour either... but thats not enough for all of us... i'm refering to almost all electronica here and i'm not stereotyping techno and trance ... i'm using them as an example of the primitive nature of electronic music as a whole due to thier repetitive nature and simple programing/ structure. and the only reason i didn't use breakbeats in my example is that term refers to wider range of music(ie. from hip-hop to rock n roll), who's structure could be more easily argued... (and i prefer to minimize chances of anyone calling me on my shit ;o) not to say there isn't perfect examples of this in the techno/ trance genres as well (rabit in the moon anyone?)... but these genres tend to have a little more conformity in thier overall production. i don't agree with atrix's disco / house comments either... cuz as fuckin' gay as it was/ is... it was also a very important gateway music for electronica. anyway... my whole point was that electronic music market is at a point where its so saturated and waterlogged with "by the book" copycat artists who are just mimicing thier inspiration rather than raising the bar. as far as mad for brads comments... as much as more artists are "pushing the bar" i also feel that its setting limitations on creativity... drum and bass would be a perfect example of this... the production quality has never been higher!! yet many enthuthiast wouldn't hesitate to say that the music has also "lost its soul". anyway... brad... as much as i would love to hear your input and musical expertise on the subject... the fact remains that your still a little puss-hole bag of shit hiding behind an anonomous account, which lead me to belive your either completely full of shit... or you lack enough confidence in your own words that you are afraid to put your identity behind them. this makes you completely uncredible in my eyes... and the fact that 99% of the time you simply choose not to post a reply when someone calls you on your shit just drives the nail into coffin. so ya... choke on a dick you fuckin' fairy!! |

i think the point to be remebered here is...
it's all diamonds and its all shit. it all depends on the listener! me, im into anything that includes heavy drums, crazy percussions, bowls movin bass notes and/or faggy, lutin-nesk vocals! |

Murdock, u defended urself very well and were able to give examples, dope... I can agree that at its core, most electronica is limited by its repetitiveness and yada-yada, but to say that it isnt progressing is to deny the existence of a progressive production force, trust me, I listen as many of the tekno/house/trance/experimental releases as I can on a weekly basis through juno.co.uk, and I have to say that eletronic production just keeps getting sicker and sicker, everytime I get bored with a sound, I just investigate it until I uncover something new and crazy or old and way ahead of its time...
To expand on this, I'll give you an example. I used to listen to a lot of rock'n'roll growing up, and denied that it would ever make a comeback after the 90's and so I basically stopped searching for a new rock sound. Then years later I started hearing bits and peices of new stuff and I began to see it as a progression... new skool rock combines a lot of different musical elements and setups to create a new rock type sound, call it indie or wtv, "Its still rock'n'roll to me..." either way, this shows that sounds evolve, it all depends on whether or not you chose to find that evolution and go with it. Now I agree that plagerism is plagerism, but immitation is also the sincerest form of flatery, and then there's the ol' "if it aint broke dont fix it" phrase, so yes, electronica can seem very similar by its bones, but there is definately a progressive evolution going on, u just dont focuss on tekno or trance, so it isnt apparent to you... not to mention that I find knowing a bit about a genre can easily give you the wrong impression; probably as easily as knowing a lot about it. whats important with any genre is keeping an open mind and constantly exposing yourself to new material... all this without even mentioning the fact that in todays music industry, it is so extremely hard to make a buck, that if your shit doesnt blow studio heads away(and this doesnt count for pop shit, though they've definately stepped up their production lately aswell) u dont have a prayer.. then there's the ever growing synergy of online media and digital formats as reproduction, this is without a doubt setting the bar higher and higher... In closing, yes I know this resembles a novela at this point, I would like to mention one very important fact to everyone, and this is in my humble opinnion, feel free to call me out on it, in all the years that I've been a dj, my favorite sound to play and the difference between me buying a track and playing it or not, is the kinda sound that makes you feel HIGH, muzik that fucks with your head, gives you rushs and is composed for people on drugs... thats right, I like drug influenced muzik of any genre, trance-tekno-house-breaks-electro-dnb-jungle... the drug sound is here to stay, I find the best of it will make you feel high even when you are sobber, its produced purposely to be played loud and give peeps shivers, tingles and smiles, not to mention make their feet move. I've been listenning to, enjoying and playing this kind of sound for so long, I truely believe in it, but there's a time and a place for everything, and it is by no means anyones cup of tea... muzik is a way of life for some people, and it is to me; I consider muzik to be one of the greatest things I've ever known/been part of during the little time I've been on this planet, AMEN Ufot-jello pudding is for cosbyfrok |

It really is all about what you like and what you expect from your music. Like what about gabba? To me that shit shouldn't even be considered music... I can't listen to it for more then 2 minutes without having to end my life with a screwdriver firmly implanted into my ear. Some people can snort coke though... and love that shit.
It's all personal opinion. Bad things can be said about all electronic music... hear let's take a jab at it: Jungle: Abunch of shady ass motherfuckers all pretending to be all dark and cool listening to music which seariously hasn't changed since it became called drum and bass. Hey look I can take a 2 step bass line and sample the amen break too! WEEEEEE Trance: Abunch of teenagers high off there ass on ecstacy listening to songs with the same structure and breakdowns over and over again! HEY let's rip off some classical sample and apply the 4 to the floor beat under it. Then we'll hardly progress it and use the same anthem again later after the breakdown. Techno: I know how to use rythm machine and groove-boxes! I'm ever so clever! Bump booch click other sound bump! Over and over and over and over and over again.... My teachers all said I had a REALLY long attention span... I don't understand why. Hardcore: I'M HIGH ON CRACK! and probably underage... Who wants to fuck the bassbins with me? House: I haven't done anything new and innovating since 1970... I also feel compelled for some reason to start all my songs with a 2 minute intro wich starts with just the bass drum and slowly works all the other parts of my song into it... My new big sound is benny benassi... who ripped off thomas bangalter... who just basically made funky disco. Breaks: I try to hide from being made fun of because my musical genre is so vast... but the truth is I really like trance... but all my friends would make fun of me if they knew I listened to that. |
