I personally am proud that our great nation said no, we should, and in some ways already have been, be an example to the rest of the world as per how a 1rst world nation can do better good for every one through peacefull aid. And besides, if any one ever did attack Canada, they would be forever known throughout the world as supreme bully assholes from HEll... I strongly feel that all 1rst world nations need to help other coutries, economically, socially in a constructive manner; we shouldn't waist any energy on stupid primitive scare tactics, covert and clandestine military pressure and black market weaponary. And we definately shouldn't tell people freedom and democracy can only rise from the ashes of dead cities, cause it just aint so...

Ufot-the hardest way to live is through positivity, for being negative is simply an excuse not to rise to the ultimate challenge of life////

fisrt off, not related to the quoted section above: why must you be a cynical fuck?

now to my point... yeah... it did... what ARE you going to do about it? go back in time? Let Hitler kill all the jews? and gypsies? and anyone else he felt like?

yeah.. that's a great analogy there scott...
cuz by building a defense system within the borders of our own country is really going to start a war...
build a missile defense system around your house.. see if anyone cares

and i said that I agreed that we shouldn't build it

everything has pros and cons... you cant just look at one side of any issue

Absolutely, all i've been reading about our refusal on joining the MDS are comments about economic reprecussions from the U.S. Just look at the problems we got from not joining the war in Iraq (ie: Lumber).

Mind you, off the top of my head, I can't think of anything else they've done, but they're still bullies none the less.

As for my postion on the actual program? I'm totaly against it. Sure we could benefit from the technology in Areonotics or Rocket propulsion systems. On the other hand, there is no need to promote and proliferate the use of ICBMS.

fuckin' right-- communication is a key... just because you weren't able to unlock the "door" the first time, or the second time... doesn't mean it'll never work, inless you believe it--perhaps.

"good" reasons or perhaps rather excuses to join in on the MDS:

1-fear (racism, nationalism, hate, mental/spiritual blindness.)
2-to follow and get benefits from the USA
3- because you believe that it is the only way to go (even though it isn't)
4- because the media and/or culture one has grew up in shows of no other way
5-money, power, superiority

some may overlap...this is a recording.
3-

Im working for the Canadian Forces and I saw the plans of this MDS....this suck ass! It cant stop more than 5 missiles, everybody now if an nuclear attack is launched on USA it will be more than 5 missiles. And I know exacly why USA is pissed off about us...You know Canada is really avanced in areospace tech so by joining this project it will be our task to upgrade the MSD and also help them with the financement. Cant say more.
SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH!

MP5sd5: another reason for usa to be pissed off for not joining is that the more people who support, the more people who may jump on the badwagon (join too).
Furthermore, canada is very influential... so ...

dinosaur: Yeah I'm sure diverting money into defence is going to help our health care and school systems....

Obviously I can't do anything about ww2, why even suggest it? I'm just saying that while war/defencce can be good for the economy it is a very BAD way to stimulate it in terms of lives and misery and what not. You'd have to be cynical to SUPPORT anything that has to do with war...

its funny even though he said no, in the news they dont mention this alot, but Washington must get permission from Ottawa before firing on any incoming missiles over Canada and they been planning this for some time now.

The only reason why he said no is so other Canadians wont hate him, he got millions of letters saying that if he went through with it, they would not vote for him again. He doesn't give a shit, he just cares about the money.. the companies

"The U.S. is not seeking to base missiles in Canada and is not looking for a financial contribution to the program. It also does not need Canada's participation to continue with the program."

-CBC News

so missles will still be going over our land, and Paul Martin was totally up for this program, he just didn't want to look bad

I can see how that makes sense. But no where really in that article did it say anything other "Paul Martin says 'No' to the missle defence shield, and that America believes that by not signing on to the MDS that Canada would be losing its sovereignty by 'being out of the room' (if that even really makes sense)."

No where does it say anything about secret missle silos (or whatever) being built on Canadian soil. And neither is that quote... Do you have any more references?

Although, after reading that article, I was rather proud to read that Paul martin said: "I don't think that anybody else expected that there would be any other finger on the button other than an American,"

I was trying to find an article. My teacher is really into this, and he mentioned it to my class about how Paul Martin was always planning on going with this, but didn't want to look bad. Putting missle silos on canadian soil im not sure if thats true, i wrote that by mistake thats why i edited it out. But either way.. these missles are going over our land.. no way in stopping that
