ok what is the difference between an intel dual core (mac) a pentium 4 64 dual and an amd 64 dual?

the mac uses pentium m chips so it's the slowest by far, however those chips are quiet and can fit in small computers with no trouble (mac mini)... It's also a 32 bit chip. It's still faster than a g4 and almost all the g5 chips (except the fastest ones)...

The pentium 4 D is a 64 bit chip.. Um it's a pentium 4.. Generally those are the best for video encoding so if you are doing video editing you want one.

The athlon 64 dualcore (think it's the x2 or something) is comparible to the pentium 4, probably a better price/performace ratio which is ussually the case with amd chips.. It is also 64bit.

note though dualcore means 2 chips on one die, while dual processor means 2 independant cpus... Like the quad g5 power mac is a dual dualcore.. It has 2 chips and each one has two cores..

apparently the core duo chips are pretty damn fast actually, beating a dual g5 2ghz in some cases..
