| Coolness: 37540 | I think the ideal is for women and men to feel comfortable in their own skins without having to fit the tight mold of beauty and not having to buy so much useless shit to feel better about themselves. The ads are simply to sell the most shit to the most person (using sexual connotations), but they dont consider the impact these images will have on the consumer. Sorry azzizzuzz but you can bitch and whine that miss universe contests are only entertainment value. But as a guy, you cant understand the pressure on women to lookd good. For example like Billy said, she had to be unhealthy skinny. And You know shows like "The Swan", where the "ugly ducklings" turn into "swans" after many plastic surgeries, an idiot like you can argue that its purpose is only for entertainment. But, you really think all of these kind of shows (extreme makeover) are coincidental, hell no they are to create a false need, you NEED plastic surgery to feel good about yourself. The show is just a long ad for plastic surgeons around North America. Come one think about, would publicists really be able to sell us shit if we felt good about ourselves. Obvisouly not, they try to remind all the time that we are so far from the beauty standards and that we are worthless so that we buy more and more.
In a nut shell, my beauty ideal is to see women and men of all shapes and sizes on the media, and that all feel good about themselves. Sure one can argue, obesity is unhealthy, but what about the models! oh and by the way name me 8 fat actor or actress out of the thousands of actors |

Like with the dating shows. You have to get rid of 10 people out of 30, and you only had one night to get to know them, you would usually send all the non pretty ones home. I wouldn't date anyone I didn't find attractive, but everone has a different a opinion on who is attractive. Competition. Some like to compete. We all want to win. Thats where pageants come in. Some do it cause they aren't good at much else and others do it for the hell of it. It makes them feel good about themselves if they win, and makes them feel better then anyone else, and thats a great feeling, a cocky feeling, but great. But they are lame, these pageants. |

except one thing you missed that aside from making them feel good, its also promotion, a good way into serious modeling or other professions that aere looks based, or if they do something else other than strut their stuff, they can use the marketing for that as well. |
