Whoa. So many misconceptions in this thread.

First of all, as Jeff pointed out, the majority of the prisoners in that jail are Iraqi civilians who happened to be standing around when the Americans were arresting anyone suspected of looting. That was over a year ago, none of them have been given the oppurtunity to have a trial or contact anybody on the outside, so they're just left rotting in an overcrowded jail.

Now, the U.S. intellegence agencies are hungry for any sort of information, so they've been encouraging all manner of prisoner abuse and torture in order to get any information from the Iraqis. Nothing new here. Except this time, pictures were leaked, so now its out in the open.

If it weren't for those pictures, all you'd hear would be stories and rumours of prisoner abuse and noone would give a shit. But those pictures change everything, because they force Americans to confront the barbarity and cruelty of their own army, the ones who are supposed to be the "good guys".

And let's not forget that one of the main Bush arguments for going to war was to "liberate the Iraqi people" from this brutal Saddam guy. Now, not only do the Americans take over the same jail that Saddam used to torture prisoners back in the day, but they continue the practice of torture! I wonder how "liberated" those Iraqis piled naked in a pile felt.

So, in a nutshell, those pictures have totally obliterated one of the main American arguments for the supposed morality of attacking a country without any provocation or cause.

It's always the civilians who pay the biggest price. But at least now it's not their own president who's killing them.

There are a ton of people in Africa who would probably love to be "liberated", but I don't see anything happening there.

I was listenning to the radio and the accused soldiers had a reason why they did what they did. I forget why though... my mind was free like a bird but my body was listenning to the radio. In other words, nothing in the world existed besides the radio when it was playing.

I was high.

Sickening is the feeling when you think you're high at a time of international crime is happening while we smoke our blunts.

I have borne witness to such attrocities, exactly duplicated, and repeatedly conducted right here in Canada and USA. Every year literally thousands of educated young men and women run through the rites of passage to join a fraternity or sorority and are subjected to conditions far worse than what the media has shown. Hell, the specky bastards do that shit at a home game.
Of course, one must take the cultural perspective of Islam where the concept of a frat is synonymous with Satan and the Americans will have to deal with the repercussions of the stupidity of a few. It's a spin the Bush Admin is not capable of doing on the world stage. At this point I really don't think re-election is the issue that history will remember.

Eldar, u said don't put the whole population in one bucket. And yet u put those POW's all the same bucket. You're being totally hypocritical. U started a thread showing a picture of a gun pointing towards yourself to symbolise the solution for world peace. And then you say that those POW's got what they deserved. So what is it Eldar, is it an eye for an eye or find a humane solution?

i ditent really read the whole thread, so i dno if anyone already said this but: my 3 cents

it fucking suks that the news that we hear half the time, isnt even true. the american soldiers are always glorified...
i think that this is the only time that they have been questioned. they even use the same footage for the different "battles", in different cities (in iraq). fucking ghey.

" the same reporters and pundits who lambaste President Bush for speaking so simplistically of an "axis of evil," of "evil-doers," and of "those who hate freedom," report without the slightest skepticism"

funny how the non-conforming iraqis are called freedom haters, and are being compared to nazis (axis of evil); while the american soldiers are occupying their country, and emprisoning civilians unjustly.

The Abrasion Between Two Nations

While many yearn for conciliation,
The driving ego of a nation
Claims this war as the emancipation
Of the Iraqi population

U.S military units are stationed
Bombs now primed for detonation
TV sets confer this information
To the millions trapped in consternation

(chorus)
Listen Bush and Saddam,
You’re killing your fellow man
You’re killing your fellow man
Does anyone give a damn?

And what is the purpose of this subjugation?
Is it to reinforce your reputation
As bloodthirsty men from a bloodthirsty nation,
Or to terminate oils price inflation?

Do you intend Iraqi government sanitization?
Do you seek economic amelioration?
Or Bush, is it mere self-glorification
That makes you seek Saddam’s damnation?

(chorus)

And you, Saddam, in your frustration
Assisted in hushing media propagation
Regarding the factual accusation:
“Hussein plays part in Kurdish decimation”

With refusal to accede to the negotiation’s
Presented by the United Nations
To disarm all weapons of annihilation
You initiated further confrontation

(chorus)

As you both raise arms in retaliation,
Deeming yourselves beyond justification
Thirst for power outdoes need for pacification
Bush and Saddam, who will deliver you salvation?

Listen Bush and Saddam
You’re killing your fellow man
You’re killing your fellow man
Does anyone give a damn?

hahah im the best wat.
