1) Thing is that there is dance nights with DJs spinning hip-hop. Since it is a form of electronic music, I hardly see how you could not classify it as EDM. However, one way or another, I don't see why it shouldn't have it's place in an electronic music festival.

2) Don't remember the draf queen show...but well, why not? I mean, that's what makes Shambhala that amazing: lots of entertainment.

3) Well, last time I've been to a hardcore rave, all I remember is telling myself I should get the fuck out of there when I heard a linkin park sample in a track. Candy ravers and rebel kids, depending on what kind of hard style of EDM...I'll admit it's a generalisation, but still, if you compare the general age of hardcore fans vs IDM or DnB or dubstep or breakbeat or (...), I doubt it will be the same.

4) I'd listen to dubstep for a whole night if the DJs are good and play a large variety of stuff. Since I prefer midtempo/downtempo music, I don't see anything wrong with it considering only "rules" of dubstep is that it's slower than most EDM and that it has a high emphasis on bass. But to be honnest, I probably won't spend one whole night listening only to the dubstep artists at Shamb. I'll spend a bit of time listening to psy in the labyrinth, and probably a lot of time at the beach, listening to the more chill-out stuff.

5) Well...this forum is not the only forum I visit, and I've seen more than once a Hardcore enthusiast start a new thread on a EDM forum only to be told by most people that it's the only genre of EDM they don't like...It even happened on the Shambhala forum. So I can assume that it wouldn't be to much of a good move for Shambhala to get hardcore djs.

6) Sure, could be better.

6) Honnestly, I totally agree with the fact that it could be nice to have a couple of hardcore DJs if it would please a part of the crowd. I don't like most house either but I can understand why there is some at the festival and I don't mind. The thing is that honnestly, there is not a lot of hardcore fans at Shamb. Simple as that.

Mh...I'd say it's different rather than "wasn't very good".

"The headliners are great, they're just not my thing"

Can understand that...thing is, there's lots of non-headliners that are way more interesting than the headliners themselves.

I just can't agree with the idea that the festival is for non-selective music listeners.

As for the price, Melo, I think it's ok for all the time and money the organisation put in that festival. You pay for the line-up, the music and yes, the party itself (with all the deco and stuff). Anyway, they don't necessarly want more people to come. The number of people is limited and the festival always reach it's limit.

I know people who come in illegaly, but I prefer to pay even though I'm not full of cash, simply because I know it's worth it.

Well...just out of curiosity, did you just decided that since you don't know most of these artists, they must be shit, or did you at least go to their myspace and take a look at what they play, and make your mind following their music, and not their reputation?

"Um...wow. First of all, it my critism that there was a lack of harder genres. And second, its a fair criticism:

A festival that`s suppose to be EDM based, has non EDM genres featured such as hip-hop artists and garbage, and more dub than anyone with any musical taste could possibly want to listen to over a weekend. It also has a shit load funky breaks DJs (probably for people who don`t like EDM much at all)...and yet, there is no room for any hardcore, hardstyle, hard dance, hard house or trance (with the exception of psy)???

And no offense, but well over half the people at shambhala are locals from the kelowna region that are there just for the drugs. Most of them couldnt name a single dj they wanted to see, or a DJ that wasnt named Tiesto, Burin or Dre. So its not THAT magical, and the vibe is THAT good. IMO, everyone on this board would probably contribute more positively to the vibe at Shambhala than 90% of the people there. "

1-Hip-Hop not EDM? Well...to me, Hip-Hop is electronic music, and really fun to dance to.
2-If hip-hop is garbage....I doubt hard electronic music is worth anything. You obviously don't know enough about hip-hop before criticizing that genre.
3-Most hardcore/hard styles fans of EDM I know are 16 years old kids who don't know shit about music.
4-There is lots of dubstep/dub electronic artists, but they all have their distinct genre. Dubstep is a very diverse genre of music that tries not to separete into sub-genres. I see a big big difference between Excision and Sub Swara, for example. Both will play slow breaky music with lots of bass, but with two totally different vibes.
5-Sure, Shambhala got its load of "funky breaks DJs", but seriously, it's more logical to get non-interesting popular music, than non-interesting non-popular music (harder genres).
6-Lots of people are from the region of Kelowna and around, for sure, but there's also people who are coming from all around north-america and other countries in the world. I doubt these people would fly to Salmo if Shambhala wasn't the magical event that it is.
7-People on this board would contribute more positively to the Shambhala vibe!?! Fuck...I'm sorry, I love montreal EDM scene and all...but this community is full of drama and that kinda stuff...Lots of hipocrisy and lack of open minds, despite what most people try to show as an image....

Well...maybe the "new stuff" are the less known names that you ain't heard of...

I'm definitely waiting for Spiral Architect (psychedelic DnB), Heyoka (psy/dubstep/glitch/downtempo), Sub Swara (downtempo/dubstep/glitch), Phontaine (Jazzy downtempo)...

And I'm so happy that Excision is coming back...his set last year was one of the most destructive dubstep set I've ever heard.

Sorry, but what's your definition of a lame line-up!? Because Pendulum and other sell-out shitty artists aren't there doesn't mean the line-up is lame. Spend a little time searching for the artists on myspace and come back telling me the line-up sucks...

Don't put the blame on the line-up because of your lack of good musical knowledge.

What!?

Well....depends on your musical taste....but still...

They got Benga, Spor, Ewun, Bassnectar, Glitchy & Scratchy, Excision....

And I can't wait for the more chilled-out, psy-dub artists Sub Swara and Heyoka. Benga playing a set on the beach: fucking curious as to what he'll play.

As for the Labyrinth, I don't really know psy artists, but I heard they got more psy than last year.

Don't mind the thing about insults. You can critic a cop without having to insult him (even though this law will probably be abused by cops, as always).

The mask thing, though, really is horrible. I know of anarchists manifesters who got into lots of trouble for not wearing masks, even though they didn't commit any crime, just because they were part of an organisation.

Passeport holds electronic music nights every thursdays. The place is kinda small, but people there are really friendly, and lots of good music (usually dubstep/dnb and whatever the guests are playin').

If you're into dubstep, there's also a new monthly night at Blizzart (second sunday of every month). People who are putting this night on are also making other nights from time to time.

Yeah, this thing about heroin in E is ridiculous. Not saying it can't happen, but if it does, it's rare as fuck.

MDA is not unseen in pills though. Pills can contain lots of things. Amphe/Meth are like, always present in pills. You can find some pills with 2C-B, 2C-T-7, Ketamine, DXM, and other adulterants like caffeine.

Get some molly, know what you're putting in your body.
