We just got this message from our friends in Montreal :)

***

come, if you dare, for a most spooktacular ride within the dark caverns of the Montreal Metro. At 9pm other fun seeking, costumed individuals shall embark into the last car at Cote Vertu metro and venture off, visiting all the stations of the Orange line while eating candy, listening to scary music and adding newcomers to the ride.

Will you be one of them?

Remember...ghouls (and the STM) do not like messes. Pack it in - pack it out. Clean up all litter. No markers of any kind.

The doom buggy is also on a schedule. To avoid any disruptions, the rules of the STM must be obeyed. Do not hold the doors open. Do not walk between metro cars. No smoking or open alcohol - this is still the metro! If the train stops, sit down and listen up.

Happy Halloween and see you there. Don't forget your costumes and candy :)

ufot: thank you for pointing me to this; i still believe we are not the kind of people the STM is trying to fine. strength in numbers is definitely an important part of a transit party; the fact that the event generally doesn't have a "leader" (the soundsystem is basically a piece of luggage), and the fact that honestly, the worst they would do is ask you to leave on two separate trains.

we prefer to have them ride with us and write tickets for people who are clearly breaking the law. we find some transit workers even enjoy it or dress up in costume! only people who are drinking are really in danger of being ticketed, as far as experience has shown.

drgonzo: sorry! we are hoping to go to europe soon; if we don't, sooner than later! we are hoping for a few hundred more mailing list subscribers also.

strength in numbers :) honestly we will not be breaking as many rules as people seem to think. as long as nobody is smoking or standing on the seats, we are all fare-paying, law abiding partiers who happen to be dancing

we did an event on a toronto streetcar with cdj's and a mixer, that was ill, but this is a little harder

we have a soundsystem called "newsoundspace", a 200W speaker-sub combo powered by a 600 amp power cell. it can all fit into a piece of rolling luggage and disassembled in 10 seconds. :) the music usually comes from an iPod but if you want to risk your equipment you are welcome to jack into our power. we will probably be playing breaks, a touch of jungle and maybe a hardcore track here and there.

we never ask permission for events like this; transit workers agree it's best not to ask because obviously they can't condone such a thing.

instead we put up huge rules and pray nobody breaks them; sometimes they will ride with us, allowing the party to continue and they will ticket people if they vandalize something, for example

the name of the game is "don't be stupid". it's worked :)

Newmindspace, which has orchestrated subway parties, pillow fights, large games of capture the flag and other creative events in New York and Toronto, has fallen in love with Montréal.

We have decided we would love to have a party on the Montreal Metro with music, decorations, dancing and wild abandon. To see a video of our subway parties in Toronto, [ www.newmindspace.com ] here (Quicktime required).

Hear about this Montréal event on [ www.newmindspace.com ] mailing list.

We need help! We are looking for DJ's, somebody who can speak French (ours is a little rusty...) and partiers! If you want to hear about this event when it happens, check out [ www.newmindspace.com ] click "Montréal" and enter your e-mail address. Don't worry, this is a very low-traffic list.

why doesn't anybody do k holes?

the best way to do k is in a dark room with ambient music playing. rail at least half a vial at once and lay down on a bed. you will be pulled into beautiful fantasy worlds, have out of body experiences and explore the inner realm of your imagination.

that is why k is amazing!
