I think alot of people come to the rave scene for the first time with a very innocent (maybe even naive) mindset. And viewed from such a perspective, every party can seem like a magical event.

But after time and exposure to some of the less than positive elements of the scene (comepeting crews/promoters, drug abuse, etc) than one's innocence quickly fades, and a negative attitude towards the scene can develop.

Its not that those less than positive elements weren't there during the "good old days", its just that you didn't see them because back then you were a different person.

Salvia is a very strange drug in that you can smoke it and either get nothing, or the most intense experience of your life. Most people have to smoke it a few times before they really "break through" on it...and once they do, most people never end up smoking it again just because its just too intense and strange.

Personally, I've smoken it 3 times and have yet to really breakthrough...had one very odd experience where it seemed like the (square) room I was in was twisting and curving into a tunnel-like shape, and I was being pulled along with it into the tunnel. Felt like some kind of strange gravitational force had taken over me and the room. At the time, I thought it was the funniest thing every and was laughing my ass off!

Insomniak, you are correct on almost everything, EXCEPT that there are one or two research chemicals (especially 5-MeO-AMT) which are small enough to fit on a blotter, and which have been sold as acid. I really can't comment on whether or not this is the case in montreal, but if it is, 5-MeO-AMT is different from LSD in that the former is shorter-lasting and frequently causes nausea/vomiting.

As far as current research shows, MDMA is quite safe if used in moderation. The anti-drug U.S. government has spent countless dollars trying to convince the public of MDMA's supposed harmfullness, but as yet there is no evidence that moderate use of MDMA causes any harm whatsoever.
