Textures is a series of deep-listening events held on the last Saturday of each month at Le Cagibi, formerly Pharmacie Esperanza. These salon-style concerts focus mainly on live performances of experimental, electronic and improvised music in a comfortable and intimate setting.

This month Kh4n is in europe and I'm semi-taking it over. As a result we have some live drumming / breakcore / jazz fusion acts. Should be pretty killer.

Samedi, 31 Mai 2008 / Saturday, May 31 2008

John Kameel Farah is a Toronto composer, pianist, electronic musician and visual artist, fusing the music worlds of renaissance and baroque counterpoint, free improvisation, Middle-Eastern texture, ambient minimalism, techno and electroacoustics, to synthesize an entirely original sound. A virtuosic keyboardist simultaneously using piano, laptop sound sculpture and sequencing , synthesizer and at times even harpsichord and organ, his creative efforts are fueled by exchanges of physical, spiritual and emotional energies on both a macrocosmic and microscopic level. In an effort to see the larger picture, his music draws upon an interest in history, mythology, painting and drawing to help deepen his understanding of life and the human condition. In 1999, after meeting Terry Riley after a performance at the Kitting Factory in NYC, he had private lessons at his home in the Sierra Nevada mountains in California. Toronto’s NOW Magazine named his as Best Pianist 2006.

it's pretty great - just started season 5 last night and i will probably nur home to watch the rest tonight after work.

it's no sopranos though. to me there are too many plots and characters. i guess it's more like real life but you end up having certain plot threads that you don't really care about. some characters end up not getting as developed as they could.

Acclaimed Irish net-label [ www.acroplane.org ] has just posted my newest release on their site.

ACP016: Blake Market - Northern Wood

Blake Market (aka Black Market, Zark Behida, Blakkar Noir) re-emerges with an album of utterly up-front, forward-looking hard drum n'bass.

Based on a far-flung concept inspired by the natural grandeur of the Boreal Forests of his homeland, this release is certain to please lovers of both old-school techstep and drill n' bass alike (to the exclusion of pretty much everybody else! - ed). Seriously though, it's well good.

Pounding, splintered odd-meter breakbeats and thoroughly Canadian nature samples are paired with grizzly basslines and suspicious synths in this off-kilter winner.

For more of his work check out [ g25productions.com ] [ trotch.com ] [ panospria.com ] and [ flatwax.com ]

Tracklisting:
1. Alpine Aqua
2. Coureur de Bois
3. Northern Wood
4. Beaver Futures
5. Étienne Brûlé
6. Softer Leaves
7. Underbush
8. Erstmal
9. Wood, Wood, Wood
10. Tyvek
11. Forced Trees

Dr Noh was from montreal, for the record.

Noize was great - Tony and Sharon were/are true music lovers. Hamish, any pics from the first location on Pins?

also remember Double A & Twist, and Jordan's "The Session" dnb nights at Purple Haze? Make some noise inside!
