i'd say most people 'take care of themselves' cause they don't wanna get hurt..?

yeah thats the problem ! we only think about ourselves...

The real solution is to care about yourself AND the group! its a little bit like OOP(object oriented programming) !

It's the ME generation aone. It started in the 60ies and it's been going downhill ever since.

No sense of community, it's just me me me. Even the so-called rave community is all about me me me (tipsy vs. noah is a clear cut example).

There is nothing you can do to change it. The reason is, it's too set it stone. The whole world now works on individualism, it's lifeblood is now set on individualistic ideals. You can't go back to the 1940ies when your country was more important than you, when your community was more important than you.

people have given up on the idea of thinking about others such as their country and the idea of patriotism. people think "why would i do something for my country when my country doesn't care about me"

If you really think about it taking care of your self is the really only thing that we have total control over. The rest is just a big crap game with winners and losers.

people have always thought of themselves first, that is human nature. they don't want to feel pain so they do anything they can to avoid it. even when they were more dedicated to their communities and all that they still thought of themselves first... but sometimes we make compromises for other people because we realise they will benefit from it more than we will be disadvantaged from it

in the past people willingly signed up for the army when it was time for war because thye cared about their country and others more than themselves. If there was a war today conscription would have to be in full force to get people to help out. times have changed and people have realied that the only way to survive these days is to be selfish, so they are.

people value their lives more than the lives of others... there are only few people who would risk themselfs for someone else, espeicaly a stranger... i think people in the 40's though were manipulated or were manipulated in a diferent way then they are today. people back then saw it as more of a responsibility and a duty to their country to protect it, but today people either got smarter and realize live is worth to much or...etc there are many reasons now people might want to keep their lives as long as posible, another reason could be lack of hope... maybe in the 40's someone would fight a war because they might have seen it as if their lives were one more contribution to saving their country and giving hope for the next generation, were today, espeicaly a more capatalist veiw might be " fuck it were to far into this hole i might as well live my life to the fullest next the next generation dont have a chance"....

The americans didn't even want to get involved in WWII. They were more concerned with oil in the south pacific and started amassing troups at Pearl Harbour.

Japan saw them doing this and laughed their assess off as the machinery, boats, troops, planes were all moved into tight little docking bays. Japan of course, wanted to secure this oil, and knew the pearl harbour force was a huge threat so they bombed it. The US was now in WWII. The americans felt very threatened and dismayed. The economy was finally getting over the great depression and now this.

War was regarded as the way to secure the US as the world leader, and of course, americans became horribly patriotic. WWII ended off as being the War to End All Wars, and then *wham*, North Korea advanced into South Korea over oil. North Korea, not only trying to get more oil, but its a communist state threatening a democratic capatalist state. The US needed to protect this democracy so they could secure the oil.

It was this war that everything went wrong. Many people felt lied too. "Hey! WWII WAS THE WAR TO END ALL WARS, WTF ARE YOU DOING?". The beatniks showed up and they lead on to the hippy movement.

The 60ies was such a unique time. For starters, the american economy was so unbelievable stable and solid. Secondly, it was a time when people in the US thought nothing could go wrong. But then Vietnam happened. This was also over oil, and the French left vietnam realizing it was a pointless fight. The US of course just entered into this war and they couldn't pull out because the US can't lose remember?

And let us not forget the cold war. Everyone in Russia and the US was afraid of being nuked at any time.

Back to the 60ies. The US lands on the Moon, JFK was the best president the US ever had and he got assinated. People cried out for political reform. Protests arouse, holding thousands of people with legitamit concerns over the government and its foriegn policy. Communism was a threat to the very foundations of the US, and in the 60ies, you could call someone a commie and he would be blacklisted without question.

Canada had it's share of problems in the 60ies too. Pierre Trudeau's famous saying "Just Watch Me". Seperatism raged in the hearts of Quebecers like a wild injured bull. A terrorist group called la Front de la Liberation du Quebec was bombing anglophone symbols, and even kidnapped a British diplomat. The 60ies started off as the best times of North America and quickly degraded into the worst times.

All these protests got attention the world over. Everyone wanted the government to change their policy just for their cause. Some were good, some were bad, some were downright idiotic. The 60ies marked the beginning of the ME generation, and they hit with such a massive force that it actually worked. The 70ies rolled in, everyone tripped to pink floyd and danced to disco. The 80ies came in and the ME generation became even more aparent but on a different playing field. Everyone wanted to be original in style and personality. All the one hit wounders were ridiculous.

The 90ies came in and it all turned into mush. When you look back on the 90ies, you realize it was all out of money. Every single moment that made history seemed to have ties in money money money in ways never before seen. There was only one real political highlight that was out of true passion and not money. The 1995 referendum to decide if Quebec seperates from Canada once and for all, or not. And even that was tainted with corruption on all levels.

People became too greedy in the 90ies. Labour strikes of all sorts, the ME generation taking a new turn. All about the funds now.

What a big mistake it was for the ME generation to turn that way.

2001 and 2002 rocked our world in never before seen ways. The US's vulnerability was unveiled as millions of people watched on live TV two big concrete structures fall down killing almost 3000 people in the process. And if that wasn't enough to fuck up the economy...

Enron, Quest, Worldcom, and several others posted corporate fraud in the billions of dollars. The ME generation strikes again. ME ME ME, I WANT MY MONEY ME ME ME... OUPS!

And now we are waiting for the gates of hell to open as the ME ME ME I WANT MY OIL ME ME ME United Shits of Arrogance decides to fuck everything up and bomb Iraq...
