Thank you.

I tend to agree with your post in general, but i do think that some peoples troll not because they are assholes, but out of spite and vengeance for the assholes in real life. The real world has a hole other set of parameters to determine who can be an asshole to who. Size/strength is one, economic and political power is an other. But on the net, those factors tend to disappear, everyone is forced to evolve on a playing field that is rooted in the virtual, witch favors a different set of skills.
Kinda like a virtual Revenge of the Nerds.
I'm feeling low freq right now..

Why is it that the internet is somehow seen as less serious than other mediums? The bane of responsability is the same everywhere, buddy. As long as you agree to reap what you sow, everything's okay. The day you get offended that someone took you seriously for something you "said in jest" with no obvious way of knowing about it, you lose all credibility/respect from people like me.

I hope this drama was entertaining to you all!

I would personally think it's funny, cuz i have enough self-confidence to know what's (and what's not) true. And yes, it was entertaining, especially in a boring french class.

Cutterhead, me mentionning you was nowhere near in the intention of fucking with you, i just told a fact according to a thread that was on couple weeks ago. I respect your knowledge. Just wanted to make it clear.

I used your words, sure, but it's definitely a "wheover fits the mold". It's obvious when you take the rest of the post in context.

The act of trolling (even if I find it annoying) never was what I was complaining about anyway.

And you know what, even to a certain extent, if you're different in real life than on the internet, it can be okay. Provided you understand that you're as responsible for the troubles you'll cause with either personas and understand that people will judge you for it or react to it seriously. Then it's all okay.

Still, it was a fun convo. Besides a few attempts at derailing it from a certain "OLD SKOOL 4 SURE" member, it was mostly civil, opinions varied but the debate went well. All in all, it's as far from a normal ravewave thread as possible :P

I see here contradiction. Plus someone trying to have people on his side.

I wouldn't post in here anymore if i was seeking people's approbation. I mean... Let's be honest, beside Psyborg (i believe) who agreed that jamaican showers are fun...

So whatever i post, it's gonna be wrong to you guys. Mais j'm'en criss un peu. J'donne mon opinion, si ça fait ton affaire, good! Sinon... Whatever lol, à chacun son point de vue. J'vais rester fidèle à moi-meme pi continuer de rire de vos propos à mon égard. Bin content de vous faire parler autant, le forum fait moins mort de même.

Cheers!

There were no sides, just opinions.

There's no contradiction: you're just too stupid to get anything. Before you ask, yes, I'll be as blunt in real life. I'm not ashamed of it. Don't socialize often in life, don't post often online but when I do, I speak my mind. :)

You HAVE tried to derail the convo into a "everyone's bashing me but I'm not SERIOUSLY bashing anyone when I insult them" thing. So there.

Cool hein?

Pi pour reprendre cke tu dis, moi j'm'efforce à comprendre ton point de vue, alors que toi tu fais juste basher, sans essayer de comprendre. Ça c de l'ouverture d'esprit mon homme, continue de même!

The fact that some people only do it behind a computer and uses the "I'm on the internet, it's not real" excuse to thrash absolutely everyone is what I think should no longer be accepted :)

If you troll everywhere, fine. You're a troll. At least you're consistent/honest about it.

Same problem as people being different according to the context (location, people around, level of seriousness expected, etc.): such difference of behaviour seems unacceptable to some people, but normal to others who see that human beings adapt to their environment.

If you're at a family funeral or at a friend's crazy birthday party, you probably won't behave in the same way.
This doesn't mean you'll necessarily be a totally nice compassionate guy at the family funeral and a raving smartass jerk, but you see the point: behaviours may vary much, according to the context; and this is still part of someone's personality.

This also applies to somebody who's always quiet, nice and shy in real life and who becomes the worst loud-mouthed asshole ever on the internetz: there may be other real-life situations in which the asshole-demon inside him is yearning to express itself but stays borderline.

I guess this distinction between real life and internet behaviour is just a matter of threshold, i.e. when do you begin to consider that something done in context A (e.g. the internet) is "different" from some[ other ]thing done in context B (e.g. real life).
I'm feeling the flow right now..

Very much so :) I think the point I was trying to make (not strongly enough, apparently, as some members who were dropped on the head as a baby have a hard time grasping it) is that different behaviors don't mean different responsabilities.

Using your example, if you were very jovial at a funeral, or somber at a crazy birthday party, there would be negative backlash. In "regular" life, you'd suffer this backlash and you'd be responsible for it. As you say, different behaviors for different occasions/locations.

However, it seems on the internet that some people believe they act with total immunity and THIS is the difference I find we should stop accepting. Might have been understandable in a time where people WERE annonymous online and could act whatever way they wanted without anyone actually being able to pinpoint who's responsible. This is no longer the case, obviously. So why do we keep acting like it is okay?

If you NEED to vent your frustrations online, please do so. No one's stopping you! But when someone takes offense and fights back, don't be surprised/outraged and use the internet like a form of diplomatic immunity. In the end, YOU did this. Doesn't matter which persona you adopted. YOU did it.

That's what I've been trying to explain :P

In one line: We should judge people by their action and not the interpretation of said action when on the internet.
