I usually cut the songs right out of other peoples sets, works great!

Never play wavs, they ALWAYS sound like shit on JBL speakers.

Hope that helps Kire! Good Luck!

the style of psytrance i mix is full power, which means the hardest heaviest track with the most energy, there is one of thoes out of every album. and i've purchased a few but i can't find the rest, seeing as how my entire set relies on that style i can't compromise, even throwing down the cash didn't get all the tracks, i got about 8 of them in total, my library of this style is in the hundreds.. it took a lot of effort to compile it =/ and now i'm redoing my entire mix boox. but!

great news - i stumbled a cross an AMAZING site they have everything and i mean everything, and most of the tracks are .wav, and if not it's 320 but very high quality ! free as well. i feel bad for ripping them off but if they want to make money put them for sale... i've already wasted alot of time buying a track here and there, i've scoured the site cjb gave me and other psy dj's that linked up sites, so i did try !

[ www.psymania.com ] very very very awesome site. not only did i find all the tracks that i couldnt buy but they have a ton more! i hope this helps anyone out there

cheers!

I don't understand how you can find the tracks you're looking for, for free, but not for sale?

Usually it's the other way around, no??

meh... do a search for any electronic tune in google and chances are you will have more links on your first page for illegal downloads than stores...

Yea for sure, but the store will be there...
If you just search the name of the song + artist name, you should still find the store every time.

I've been playing for 5 years, and i've been paying and searching tracks in the stores since 5 years as well. No producer = no dj's. Plain and simple

well it's a sign of the times. there's a new generation of people getting into DJing now who dont really understand the concept of putting in time and money for their tracks.

for me personally, if I want the tunes, I pay the money. the only tunes you ever hear me play on a mixtape or at a gig that i *didn't* pay for, are ones the producer or the label who owns the track gave to me.

but a lot of newer people who want to be DJs don't want to pay anything for their track selection, and they expect gigs too, ASAP. they want instant gratification

I guess they've come up seeing a plethora of new DJs playing downloaded mpfrees on CDJ or serato, so it's not surprising that they don't value the music.

polar opposite of the DJs I was inspired by, but c'est la vie. big up to all the real DJs who still pay dues

fair enough. I would argue.. if you want to play a full set of these very hard to find tracks.. then maybe you just aren't quite ready for that gig yet.

sounds like you're short on selection, and a good DJ always has to have more than enuff tunes before they are ready to play out. with a little patience you will have those .wavs, but you shouldn't expect to get it over night.

and you'll do a much more impressive job, when you finally have those high quality .wavs. it'll sound better and the grouchy oldtimer DJs will actually respect how you did it, instead of seeing yet another DJ playing serious tunes that they didn't even pay for.

I delayed doing my first mixtape by about 6 months, because I insisted on having the mix start and finish with these two rare tunes. this was back before ebay or discogs so these tracks could be very hard to find. I'm good at hunting records too, but it still took me a few months of searching before I found them and got em shipped over. so it just took patience, that's all.

Kire man,

I think you can find any song you want on pay sites as .WAV files. Show me songs you didn't find, I'm curious about that.

I download a shitload of mp3's, but I don't play them at parties.

Always buy your .WAV files, they DO the difference, for you and for people listening to you.

Well if you don't find them, maybe they are not RELEASED yet! few years behind us, and we were all playing vinyls paying 20$ for a track......Maybe cdj's killed the whole concept? Like REcoil said, the only track i would play i didn't buy are tracks that were GIVEN by the producers themself to promote their music for free! Even there, if i see on juno a track i already have by Dialect or some friends , i will buy it since they work their asses hard, passing hours and hours on tracks dj's like Kire will download illegaly for free on the web and think it's ok, cuz everyone does it.

Listen Kire, THE WHOLE THING about being a dj is to let people knows/ listen your favorite producers ( locals or internationnal ). Do you think it's fair to play their tracks, have a booking, getting paid for it ? That sounds totally asshole to me. Even when i was practicing in my living room, i had to pay orders of 200-300$ in vinyl .

well i have been spending about 6 hours a day hunting all of these tracks down, i understand where you're coming from melo so far i'm up to about 50 % of my list, slowly but surely it's making it's way

i noticed it was certain lettering and keywords in the search on those sites, for some reason it's a bit different, ( the track names ) anyway it's going smoothly, i don't really want to rip them off. and i doubt i will ever make money off of djing lol, there are just too many psytrance dj's and i just like the feeling of people jamming out to my beats anyway. but i definitely want my mix's to be good quality even if i'm not making money. but there are still some i can't find anywhere, ugh cjb i'm going to pm you the list ^^ in a bit, i must be doing something wrong on my searches. the tracks have been out for a while i believe..

well my track selection is large enough now to do multiple mixes i'm just very picky on my basslines hehe. but i realized if i have too i'll compromise i think i'm okay now though

and thank you guys for your help, i mean apparently it does hurt to ask questions but w/e i'm learning

also - i found some of the rare songs but for sale as high quality mp3's, is that worth it ?

i think i'm going to post on the other site for inquires from now on lol, i learned a lot from you guys but i have this feeling that i'm ruining my name before i even start, least i'll be mixing great quality tracks now. cheers ^^

also - maybe it's just the people i ran into, i figured everyone downloaded their tracks i mean --alloooooot-- of great known dj's i've met rip their tracks and nobody even knows. i won't name names but yeah, so that didn't help my outlook as well, but hey live and learn it's a learning experience and this will make me a better well respected dj ^^ anyway i think i got slammed for this enough, i get the point lol

Until you start producing tracks, they're not YOUR beats. Even if you buy them.
