try using a black marker... draw lines radiating outward from the centre of the disc - it will cause static skipping. If you angle the lines one way or the other you can somewhat control the amount that the cd skips forward or backward... afterwards you can use hairspray and a cloth to clean the cd...

been a while since I've done it - but it should still work... at any rate, can't be any worse than taking a knife to the playing surface.
I'm feeling new records right now..

yea i know that , and props to you for pointing a thing as large as a marker can still work,

thats why when we clean them its inner to outer . never circular motion

cuz a scatch along a track will prevent the servo from retracking , but a few bits off a track will be compensated by the adc.

you can expect a good player to still play a cd with a line from edge to edge going tru the middle and still play (2 per track) (3 to 4 lines can cause a fatal error thou , imply meaning the disc will simply stop)

if you dont mess with the inner tracks too its important as you need that place clean in order to have the lense focus and become aware of a disc present. (plus that TOC and all , but skip a centimeter from the middle and youll have a lot of fun)

we messed a lot with this during my repair course.

haha that reminds me . nathan (na) has a vinyl thats missin a serious outter chip , just like someone took a bite from it. he still plays it (the rest of it , who wouldnt)

but i have a cdr that faked its refective layer just like his lp , it looks like i took a bite from it. and it plays till it gets there . but as soon as it hits the eleptic absolute of that chunk . it stops to a halt. its always funny to see a bited off disk playing thou . nomatter the medium

I used to come to Montreal 5-6 times a year to party but things changed in a bad way and now everything I see on the calendar looks like it's gonna get busted or like it's made for those stuck-up fanboys who enjoy getting high sitting on a couch, waiting for the only new tune they wanna hear. For example it's not that I don't like to listen to dubstep but I keep that at home. When I go out I want to dance like hell and come back home totally exhausted. That means hard house, bouncy techno, Nu-NRG, acid, melodic trance, happy hardcore, gabber, freeform and the likes. Oh and don't forget to put some progression in that line-up, who wants ambient at 2 am?
I'm feeling dead inside right now..
