 Coolness: 76690 | Wait though... there's been a lot of discussion but I'm still confused here Liam. Don't you need a 6-input recording device for the MPC, or are you only recording mixes? I guess you solved that but I can't help but think Traktor's not what you use to record mixes at all... so what did they give you with the package? And does your mixer have multiple inputs? I would have personally gone with purchasing a mixer running into one of those presonus boxes. |

| Coolness: 86485 | Erik.. ya you're right, I am gonna have an MPC within a month or so.. but I couldn't record any mixes or do any sampling without a sound card which was driving me nuts.. and aside from one Pioneer CDJ-800, I'm still stuck playing vinyl sets.
I have a big folder of tracks given to me on 320 or .wav and no way of mixing them together. all I can do is go from vinyl -> CDJ-800 -> vinyl. which I hate doing. I much prefer hands-on vinyl mixing to CDJ, so Serato or Traktor was a must. it was half price.. which sealed the deal. so yes I still have to address the issue of compatability with the Akai MPC 1000, but in the meantime, Traktor was something I needed, and I now have a good sound card to record sets with.. so my sanity is saved |

How exactly is he going to record anything from the MPC, which is multi-track, without somehow having a) a soundcard with 6 stereo 1/4" inputs or b) a mixer with at least six channels? And why the hell would you want to record one track at a time? Why not just make things easier and get some kind of board at the core of everything so that one doesn't have to rewire everything to record each track? I can't understand doing it that way. Tedious. To me it seems obvious to want to track to the DAW, all at once. After all, that's how you do it. If you're going to do it the hard way though take the man's advice or make things more difficult and get a BR-20 (reel-to-reel rocks for tone anyway) and then you can not only record one track at a time but splice and overdub for years to get one stinking thing done. But it'll be worth it. If you like making strange experimental music with a lot of tape saturation. |

| Coolness: 83855 | Even if you have a mixer... It's not going to be any less tedious tracking into your DAW if you don't have a sound card with multiple ins to plug those outs into... And if you had that, you wouldn't need a mixer.
The MPC does have a stereo out as well, which is fine when your banging out an idea. Throwing a mixer into things is really just making more trouble for yourself. |

[ www.tweakheadz.com ] 2.0 Interfaces{/url] Turns out the inputs on my fw card are kinda knackered, I get a bunch of digital goop along with tunes my while recording, so in my search for a new interface myself I fell on this site. Still troubleshooting on this side tho too in case I have some kinda interference issue, so if anyone has ever experienced this with their external audio interface, any ideas would be appreciated....I specifically boutgh this box years ago to record, cuz my ibook has no line in. All the outputs work just fine. |

| Coolness: 76690 | My advice is a budget recommendation, like a quick fix in the interim. Of course you ideally want to have a series of patchbays and a multi-input mixer but I personally can't afford that shit. Although I admit I'd probably just record a track at a time too, in some cases that's just a load of extra work for nothing. Especially when the device in question sounds fine already. You could either work on mastering the samples first and then use them on the MPC or track with the MPC and then fine tune the tracks later, and both work, even though I know the latter is more "professional". |
