Same . I don't remember when was the last time i went in a rave and dance my ass off... maybe i'm getting too old for this :P And i think one of the reason i don't go anymore it's because the dj line-up often change from happy hardcore to psy to break to dnb etc. I prefer having 2 rooms reprensenting styles who fit together ,but these days seems to be well disorganised and chaotic. Promoters are doing that to bring more people from every crowd, kind of a good thing to hear new stuff when you're wrong. But at My age i know what kind of styles of music i like or not .That's why i go to *soirées* cuz i'M sure the music will more represent what i like.

I like a change of styles... 2 styles per room... The same music for 10 hours straight is annoying since it all sounds the same...

i really don't know... it depends of what we call a rave, but for sure i rave less often than i used to.

why ?

1- as everyone here, i get older and my musical tastes changed. i still like to party, but i go to the nights where i'll hear the music i like and where my friends will be.

2- as melo said, promoters often book djs who play very styles to bring more people, but 15-20 $ can be a little expensive for a party if only 2 or 3 djs in the line-up represent the music you like.

3- unfortunately, i often work during the week-end, so it makes it impossible for me to rave. but, i'm able to go to club night because at 3am it's over so i'm still able to have a decent night of sleep.

4- raves are in random places, most of the time. if i don't really want to go there, i won't take an hour to go there and then pay a 20 $ cab ride to go back home when i'm tired.
I'm feeling $%? right now..

Yes 2 styles per room is perfect! But lately there's a trend about jumping from Breaks to psy and then passing by dnb and come back to techno etc... This one hour after the other one. That,s what i mean

I have some in mind but won't name them cuz i doN,t want to bash /hate on promoters.LIke i said it's not MY thing multistylez in one room party but some people prefers that. There was a lot of my booking lately that was messed up . AN exemple of past event with sucky line-up * not because of the people playing but the style jump*

yeah.. if there's gonna be a multi-genre party, at least try and keep the similar/affiliated genres together.. one room breaks/dnb/dubstep/electro, one room hardcore/happy/gabber/freeform, one room psy/tek/stuff that's 4/4 and around 120-140bpm..

the ADD style of lineup can be good for new people, but like Melo said, some people have been around enough to not need to discover new music, so if a party has 1-2 DJs that play something they like, and 6-8 DJs that play stuff they aren't interested in, 20$ is way more than they'd like to pay just to get two hours of music they like..
I'm feeling like a drama magnet right now..

Rainbow Trip was a good balanced event

And Morning Glory in Quebec city is also a good example

room1 (Electro, Prog, Trance, Psy- Trance)
room2 (Hardcore, UK Hardcore, Freeform, Hardstyle)
I'm feeling now what? right now..

hm what i see about this is that psy parties seem to be set apart from this trend... we have so many quality psy parties with only-psy lineup, i think that is because the promoters for those parties are dedicated psytrance-people.

when i think of the other parties with all styles of music, i tend to think of them being organized by ravers and they make no distinction in style because everything is rave. so you just need someone who is very dedicated to, for example drum n bass, to throw an all-night party. but it seems, for some reason, that the drumnbassers prefer bars?

i also think that psy does not really have a place in, say, happy hardcore room in a party. it's such a different trip, a different vibe. hhc/freeform/what-ever-new-style-that-fits-there/vocal-cheese-trance in the morning. take speed or e, and leave the acid for the psy-trance parties...

make the whole rave as if it was one long coherent dj set, find focus, then you lose the sense of time... not when you need to look at what time it is because you want to know what music plays next. the changes of dj just becomes soooo obvious, and the integrity of the experience looses a lot because of that.

I'm a noob who just started raving in december. But I plan this year to assist parties with Screwhead on the list, to assure I won't pay ~20 bucks for nothing and to limit the number of parties I go. I go to these parties for listening to the music, like a metal show, and I try to remember the artists I liked. I don't like dancing, so I headbang. It would be realistic to say that I go to an average one rave per two months. But like I said I'm new so this could change. I wouldn't be able to go to a party every weekends/nights, I need calm moments.
I'm feeling jet set radiooo!! right now..

Melo is right,I dont go to the rave that have line up with to much diversity, its just destroy de mood, i really like DNB but i never been in a DNB rave cause there always hardcore in in the same line up with jungle(i dont like jungle). Its why I only go to psytrance rave.I wont go to a party that i will hate the music for 3 hours long,

An interesting question would be if montreal became more organized in other genres and put more focus on certain genres for a party... would the psy trance scene diminish a little because of this?

Haven't been in a rave for almost 2 years.. I'd really like to but I can't find any event where I would really have fun *most of the night* 'cause half of the night the DJs play a genre I don't really like dancing to..
Get me a room with DnB/Jungle/breakbeats/electro/booty house and I'll rave again ;)
Perhaps I'm asking too much? :P
