D: but on the plus side i'm getting my flowlights soon because glowsticks get expensive when u string omgawd, but the ultras i'll keep using because the effect is immaculate (sp?) lol and stringing with neon lights ... imagine hitting yourself in the face with those that would leave way more than a welt lol ill pass!!

and you've been raving since the early 90s ? now thats some veteran raving lmao it must be weird to see the scene changing and evolving/cool at the same time

and in 5 years i'll still love glowsticks like i love stringing, its theraputic!

'plur' is like 'free love', in fact the two go hand in hand. It's fun to talk about them, and maybe it's possible to try to live your life like that, if you re into it, but ask anyone who has really (i mean really) tried to live like that and chances are you'll here nothing but horror stories and bad experiences. The truth is plur and free love are really just for kids anyone over the age of say 25 who is still trying to live like that as far as I am concerned is just kidding themselves about the world. The world is not a nice place, it can be pretty harsh out there. It's one thing (perhaps) permissible to order your life according to plur, Peace, Love , Unity and Respect are all good things, but please try to remember that other people are not necessarily ordering their lives around these principles and indeed sometimes they don't have good intentions. Some people are gonna try to use you and take advantage of you, and trying to talk to people about plur in situations like that isn't gonna get you anywhere.

so based on this, i reject the notion of plur, i try, rather, to think of these things in terms of different types of relationships

Lovers: This is the important one kids, I'm not saying that you should try to live like a nun or something like that. But, I really think that if you think about it as much as i have, you can't just fuck anyone anytime just cause it feels good there are consequences to your actions...What you should be trying to do is find someone who can stand your bullshit, that you can stand as well, if you find someone like that, and you like them and they like you, then be together and protect that shit to the death. The reason for this is because people who love you (i mean really love you) are pretty rare, don't throw it away just because it's hard.

Friends: Like lovers there aren't too many really ones and so again you should be trying as hard as possible to protect and nurture these. You know when a friendship is real and when it's when it's just one of convenience, trust your gut. A real friend to me is the type of person you can go to and say "i am in trouble and i need help" and their answer is gonna be "what do you need?" That's real friendship. A great litmus test is if you imagine a situation where the police are after a friend and he comes to your house asking you to hide him for a bit, any person you would say 'yes' to is probably a friend. Additionally, if people want to hurt someone you know and your not willing to let that happen, again that's probably a friend. Of course these are two way streets, i don;t think anyone is a friend who would ask of you something that they themselves are un willing to do... in some senses friendship (real friendship) is much trickier than other relationships (co worker, boss, teacher) because no one owes anyone anything in real friendship, you re friends with people because they bring good into your life and you want to be around them. Not because they have a big screen TV or nintendo wii, but because you feel something genuine for them.

Strangers: this one is tough, cause you always wanna give new people a chance, and you hope that they can become a new friend or possibly a new lover...However the chances of this are very low (but not impossible) Just keep in mind strangers unlike friends and lovers are not bound to you by anything at all, and they can make choices about whether to like or hate you based on essentially nothing at all besides that feeling they get. Be very weary of people who seem to eager and willing to be your best best best friend right away it could be nothing at all, but it could be something very dark. Some people are very manipulative, and they might seem very cool and fun at first, i follow the following rule when dealing with new people 'if it stinks like shit, it probably is shit', by that i mean if something doesn't feel right at the beginning with someone (lies, deception, callousness) then it probably isn't right. Remember you can test people a little, always give people enough rope to hang themselves and then see if they do. Also if you find someone is always saying 'sorry' for stuff than apologies probably don't mean much to them, these people are very dangerous, because they might only be saying sorry because they think it's what you want to hear.

in today's age of mass communication with things like twitter and facebook the distinction between these terms has become difficult to maintain, the terms sometimes easily bleed into each other...That doesn't matter, what does matter is how you treat people and how you are willing to be treated by others, remember it's not about how 'other' people act but about how 'YOU' act. That's the only thing you have any control over, other people will act however they act, and you can't force them to believe in the things you do.
I'm feeling surly right now..

IMHO, poi and glowsticks-on-a-string is a lot more akin to a circus act than actual raving. I mean, I'm all up for trippy lights and colors but leave that to the lighting crew with lasers and trippy visuals.

As for pois, fire + cramped & jam packed room + 42 degrees inside + high ravers = a goddam recipe for disaster. In an open field ? Awesome. Inside ? "Hey Cirque Du Soleil pyromaniac, get the fuck out, you're taking half the fucking dancefloor with those things".

Yeah, I've pretty much seen it die. If u'd been to Psychofrog' parties, the Arrival or the first few Psychotrop/Anticipation, you'd probably tattoo PLUR on your forehead. :)

bas - that was really interesting and well put, you make alot of good points and i'd have to say thats a good way to go about things, meeting strangers is definitely tough theres only a certain amount of trust to give and to test to see if people can be true friends, i always say everyones a stranger before you meet them but its not necessarily a good thing either, for me when i meet people for the first time i'd rather be friendly and talkative after you get to know the people and hangout a few times you can see how they're like and what kind of people they are. but again thats all setting and scenario me being friendly hasn't always ended up well but i go in knowing what can happen, trying to live a life based on complete trust in others is NOTa good way to go, but there will always be time to let friendships grow or even end, theres no good without bad like everyone always says its a balance and again living a life being untrusting and closed isn't a good way to go in comparison.. i'm not sure if my post made sense haha.
in my opinion life is short and full of experience, this can be hugely debated imo people have been screwed over by close friends as they have been screwed over by ppl they just met, as opposed too close friends helping eachother out and a stranger helping a person out. this all boils down to one persons opinion, morals, how they were raised, life exp etc etc, perfect example is ill prob be shat on after this post ^ lol

0I0I0I0I well first problem there is i have never seen and never want to see someone do fire poi inside lol that just.. wow that would be bad, as for stringing indoors everyone who has seen me loves it, if they asked me to stop i would, you jsut have to have respect for people; when i session its very early in the rave when no ones there and if i session when there are people i'll only do it in a corner where there isn't anyone ( usually my friends find a spot for me when they want a lightshow) doing a session in the middle of the dancefloor is really ignorant and lame i'd be pissed to if i saw that. most raves i won't gstring mid rave cause theres way too many people and i don't like the feeling of knowing someone could be walking close to my "bubble", as for poi artists from what i've seen its ALWAYS done outside as far as i know of and i'm pretty sure its supposed to stay that way, cept for the little orb thingies they're pretty cool i've seen it a few times.

joey: that sucks :( do u hate the scene how it is now ? lol why would you say that about psychotrop ? good vibe i'm guessing ? :P

i've seen fire poi being done at bain mathieu
i just went outside, i could not breathe, that kerozen smell is not meant to be used inside....
they are shows, which are opposite to the idea of a rave. rave being the story where you are your own hero, where you are the protagonist. poi fire shows or superstar djs being like ok guys give us all your energies...
meh. :P

Years ago a friend of mine was the manager of a McDonalds restaurant. One day, he caught one of his employees fucking a bucket of lard in the freezer. The guy was just standing there, his dick in a giant pile of McFat.

Experiencing PLUR is a lot like eating at that McDonalds -- you'll enjoy the food more if you don't know how it's made, just like parties are more PLURtastic the less you know about how they come together. The less promoters you know, the less egos you witness, the less scene politics you deal with, the more peaceful, loving, unifying, and respectful the parties will seem. Sooner or later, though, you'll meet enough disgusting fuckers to sour even the sweetest of candy kids.

Instead of PLUR, you'd be better off just sticking with respect. Demand it from the people you deal with, expect it from the people you party with, give it to the people who deserve it, and never tolerate its absence.

/Psychotrop parties were nice.

Yeah of course, I meant they were awesome parties! I think the vibe is definitely gone, I don't hate anything generally speaking, but raves sure don't get me as excited as they used to back then. I don't think it's because I've grown out of them, there was something magical in the 90s, I'm not quite sure what it was, but it's sure gone now.

We don't see raves where 2000+ people are attending nowadays, I think that contributed to the excitement. Also, people put so much more effort in their costumes that the visuals were really entertaining and fun. Maybe thats just me, but I like seeing people dress up.

LOL oh no !!! that was well said though very idealistic =)

@yoshin my god i can't imagine that i would not be down for inside firepoi lmao

joey: that sucks yeah the largest rave i've been too is probably wemf, but the scene here is smaller on [ rave.ca ] but to me i like it because its a nice community of people that are very nice to me, but thats just me i like being able to spot people that i raved with at earlier times =) its too bad about the 90s i wonder what it was like...

I believe in PLUR, but like you Kire im not making it a life style. It's more a set of rules for raves for me. From my personnal experience I had more fun in raves that have a plur-ish wibe.

Im not saying PLUR is the absolute truth and im fine with people that think the contrary...but do not come impose your way of thinking to me or saying it's shit. You can have an opinion (good or bad) about it but it must be a respectfull and a constructive one. It's basic respect.

That was my 2 cents

Dude dude dude. Back up there to when you said hating on glowsticks is like saying poi is gay. I'm confused, because the latter statement is verifiably 100% true. Even gay people think so, they'll think you're coming out of the closet if you whip them out and they'll think that you're doing so in too much of a flaming and flamboyant way for them to have any interest in you.

You ever get dinged in the head by a makeshift pair of glowstick poi while trying to navigate through a room? No matter how many people act like they're so awesome with their poi skills that they won't hit me, I see almost everybody slip up at some point. I'd be impressed if you were doing it with fire but glowstick poi. Come on man. *shudder*

I feel ill.
