Well, the 2 first pics seem to be absolutely unrelated and the last one looks like three LARPers (though the girl does look like a colorful raver). I don't need pictures, but I might use the third one if my friend decides that we need pics.
I'm feeling jet set radiooo!! right now..

You want to say that we speak 'Quebecois' here rather than french, fine, we don't give a fuck, because you don't speak our language and you don't want to. Let us define what we are, stay out of it cause we don't care what you think.

What you simply refuse to acknowledge is that we're supposed to be living in a country that consists of a melting pot of all races and that all races, cultures, religions and languages are welcome with open arms to share in the riches that his newfoundland that WE stole from the natives provided the old world with.
This is not your land any more than it isn't mine, but we both live here and we are both entitled to live peacefully in whichever manner we choose, in whichever language we choose. Your ego would be frightfully oversized if you truly believe what you just wrote; you are no better than anyone that lives in Quebec and that includes the non-francophones.

look, i'm not gonna have this argument in someone else's thread, you are the one who started by denigrating an entire group of people saying their language wasn't 'proper', (a habit all to common), Would you say that about Mexico and Spain, probably not, you wanted to take a cheap shot, that's fine, but you did write on a public board, you want to write your message partially in french to prove to everyone you are tolerant, go ahead, but remember you re the one who started by saying something offensive not me.

laison nous definir notre identite vis a vis la France et les autres 'francais' ta pas d'affaires a faire ca pour nous...

Please! This forum is supposed to be PLUR! Also it has nothing to do with this thread's topic.
Ah speaking of which, should I incorporate the story of the expression 'PLUR' in my oral? That would be interesting I think :)

ok I hear you. but... they don't sound very cool man. anyone who treats a guest in their country like that must be really ignorant and rude

in my books, insulting a stranger isn't exactly something to be proud of

how you treat others says so much about you - no excuses.

in your hypothetical scenario, 100 miles out... maybe that person is from, say, Poland, and they are really lost.. so they walk up to the first person they see, all they speak is Polish, Russian fluently, and some English... so, they try and do their best to be understood in that "lingua franca"

and then they get called a "squarehead" and basically told to go fuck themselves?? - LOL niiiiice.

the mistake the Quebecois person made in that scenario, is treating them as though they are "the enemy" who took part in some historical injustice against their people

obviously not every Quebecer is like that, but these unpleasant encounters make the culture seem hostile and xenophobic.

not only is it incredibly bad manners, but it's bad for tourism and foreign investment

case in point... some Pakistani tourist chose to come visit Montreal on his vacation... fine. He's on a bus somewhere, and innocently asks the driver what time it is... in English.

well you can read what this idiot did next. and the fact that the next bus driver also refused to let people on is unreal.

I really can't see how they could justify treating other human beings like that, especially when they are being paid to serve the public. they should be fired for being so un-PLUR

oh and sorry for the off-topic posting ...

MONTREAL – At least now he knows how to say "Quelle heure est-il?"

Muhammad Ahmad Munir, a master's student from Pakistan studying at McGill University, was kicked off the No. 66 bus at 6:45 Friday morning after he asked the driver what the time was in English.

"I got on the bus and I didn't have a watch, so I asked the driver for the time," he said. "She started talking in French and I didn't understand what she was saying."

The 32-year-old native of Islamabad came to Montreal a few months ago to enroll in a master's degree program in Islamic studies at McGill.

After twice telling the bus driver he didn't understand French, she responded in English, saying: "I don't speak English."

"I then told her that she just showed me that she does speak English, and that's when she really got angry."

Munir said when he insisted on being served in English, the bus driver pressed a button to phone police, and proceeded to tell all the passengers to get off the bus. The bus was stopped at the terminus on Côte St. Luc Rd. at the corner of Walkley Ave. There were about 20 people on board the bus, Munir said.

Constable Yannick Ouimet confirmed the Montreal police received a call from the driver about a passenger who was being aggressive.

Reached Friday afternoon, Société de transport de Montréal spokesperson Isabelle Tremblay said the incident is under investigation.

Notre Dame de Grâce resident Linda Whitehall, who was waiting to get on the bus, said the driver must have phoned her colleague on the next bus because when it came, its driver would not open the doors for anyone waiting at the stop. Whitehall, who works at the Montreal General Hospital, was late as a result of the incident, and was forced to take an alternate bus.

"I was so embarrassed," Whitehall said. "This is the first time I have ever been embarrassed to be a Quebecer. Everyone was outraged over this."

Munir said he was upset about the incident, but it hasn't turned him off Montreal.

"I know for the most part, people are not like this," he said. "I haven't had a problem with anyone else since coming here."

Munir said coming from Pakistan, he understands the need to preserve the French language.

"In Quebec, they really have saved the culture very well," he said. "In Pakistan, we have lost our Urdu language, so on this point, I can appreciate the insistence on language, but there should be more tolerance for others."

Munir, who speaks Punjabi, Urdu, Arabic, and English, said he has tried to speak French, but so far can only manage a few words.

"I can say 'bonjour,' and I even said 'bonjour' to her, but I can't put together a complete sentence," he said.

Isnt the "lingua franca" thing an excuse not to learn the basics in language of a place you are invited in, or worst, living in? A explanation for laziness? Most people of our age in Quebec are talking english, a 2nd and something a 3rd language. It will still mean I'll try my best to learn japanese if I want to go to japan. There is not excuses for laziness.

Désolé aussi pour la polution du thread.
