At the same time, I'm not necessarly talking about "pop, pop" but "pop, as in mainstream" music. Still, there's also good pop.

Mainstream and Pop are two entirely different things; AC/DC is mainstream, ZZ Top is mainstream, Dire Straits is mainstream, Pink Floyd is mainstream..

Britney Spears is pop, N-Synch is pop, Backstreet Boys is pop, Lady Gaga is pop, Madonna is pop..

Pop was originally a term used for any popular music, but now it's a genre all on it's own.. Hell my dad still considers Pink Floyd and Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler to be pop, because at the time it's what was popular.. but since then the term has evolved into it's own genre, and not necesarily a reflection of everything that's popular on the radio.

Pop(ular) music can be good, but Pop (the genre) music is fucking garbage 100% designed to move units by being catchy and inoffensive to white christian teenagers.

Well, Madonna and Michael Jackson isn't total garbage. I like some La Roux stuff to be honnest. Still, I admit that it's no where near as good as some things that other genre of music has to offer. I'll always be a fan of obscure, weird music that breaks boundaries but I still think that keeping an open mind about everything can do no wrong.

But we'll both agree that Infected Mushroom's got nothing of that kind of "pop". So I was obviously using pop as in mainstream music. They sure aren't one of my favorite music band/artists but I got lots of respect for them.

In my opinion, they reach that "psychedelic" feeling much more than lots of psytrance. Don't get me wrong, I do like psytrance, I just think it's limiting itself with too much rules and conventions. Psytrance music didn't invent psychedelic music...in fact, I think there's lots of music that is much more "psychedelic" than psytrance.

The only thing Infected Mushroom is doing that's new is completely alienating their fans with a vengeance. Psytrance has a vibe associated with it that Infected Mushroom has totally lost selon moi...
the turning point for me was when I was booked to play at the Infected Mushroom after party and so got in to their show for free... I actually started listening to what they were playing and the first song they choose was "Deeply Disturbed" during which Duvdev screams at the top of his lungs "I am deeply disturbed, I am deeply unhappy" over and over again. The background beat was a way too loud and powerful kick, almost no bass, live analog percussions (which may sound great when played with other analog instruments but has no precision or punch for psytrance).
Was it a good show? maybe. was the music good? well it wasn't bad, but it wasn't Infected Mushroom... it wasn't psychedelic and it wasn't psytrance, it was mediocre rock music with a crappy singer and depressing lyrics.
Now let's look at Smashing the opponent, how much more vague and cocky can you get? And now they are releasing songs with emo metal/rock bands...
ugh

.... Can you point me to a track you feel is a particularly good mix of psy and rock? (from the producers you named, I mean) I'm not talking about a lil' integration of the electric guitar in a classic psy musical construction...

Infected Mushroom got on a whole new level when they stopped trying to make psytrance and completely included rock/metal to what they are doing. It's more a rock/psytrance hybrid than rock influenced psytrance.

I don't like most Vicious Delicious stuff, to be honnest. And I agree that I wouldn't really be interested in going to their live show.

But their last album is really pleasurable to listen to. Listen to Can't Stop, Frank or Legend of The Black Shawarma and tell me there's nothing epicly psychedelic about it...

If there's a track I don't like on the album, it's "Killing Time". Everything else is pretty good. Nothing wrong with the use of lyrics.

I think the problem is that your looking at their work as Psytrance. It's not. I wouldn't dance on their music. I listen to it like I'd listen to any rock band.

I haven't heard the album. I am very biased and I don't like lyrics because they prevent me from imagining my own... I guess that about sums it up, hehe
but really... Void and Skazi have been doing the psymetal thing for ages... it's not new, I've never liked it. Infected Mushroom did not pioneer psymetal. Listen to just about any Void track...and since Skazi only has one track, listen to it, it goes by at least 50 diff names.

"Infected Mushroom did not pioneer psymetal."

What I'm saying is that they're pushing it to a whole new level. Maybe you should give their last album a try, worse that could happen is that you won't like it.

I took a look at some Void stuff before posting the last post. And that's why I said "I'm not talking about a lil' integration of the electric guitar in a classic psy musical construction..." Void still sound like psytrance, while the last IM album sounds like something else (imho).
