Earplugs FTW!!!

I only have it at the end of the day if I have been exposed to loud music. Usualy around 10-12khz.
I'm feeling no sleep till tuesda right now..

Maybe because you are expose to very loud one like 120db... because normally the low frequency are'nt that bad for the hears, except when any sound is too loud, then it's very bad

10-12 khs are high frequency's, btw, commonly called "presence". I was refering to the tone I hear when I'm exposed to loud sounds/music for many hours.

I did. He said it's seasonal, told me to occasionally clean my ears with hydrogen peroxide, and if it gets bad I go to the doctor to get antibiotics.

I'm half-deaf (my left ear almost doesn't work anymore, I lost like 90% of it) and now I have tinnitus in my right ear. It doesn't bother me cause I'm used to it, and usually it's very low, but sometimes it buzzes so much I can't hear a thing. Before losing hearing in my left ear I had really loud tinnitus, so much sometimes it prevented me from sleeping. Then 3 years ago at St-Jean-Baptiste there was people really close to my group who made fireworks burst and it suddently stopped. I was like "hooray, finally!", but quickly I realized loss of hearing was the reason of my "relief".
I'm feeling a peace of cake right now..

Btw, not only high frequencies destroys your ears : low frequencies can destroy your ears too. Thing is, they're ninjas : human ears won't bother low frequencies because they don't hurt as much as the high frequencies. High frequencies has a shorter range of diffusion and usually, it's directed to only one place (where the speakers/tweeters are facing), so you just can dodge the pain by going away from the tweeters but still you're stuck with the problem of low frequencies, silently (no pun intended) destroying your ears.

I have tinnitus but they're quite low since I protect my ears from now on.
Btw, tip for the DJs (even if it's obvious) : NEVER EVER USE FLAT HEADPHONES ON A BIG SOUNDSYSTEM. I actually destroyed my ears by playing at Dagobert in may and couldn't hear anything 3 days after the gig (bravo champion!).

Little chunks of polyester fiber can cut 50% of the high frequencies and reduce a lil bit the low frequencies. And it costs almost nothing! You can even mix with it (if you're not stupid enough to turn up the high knob because you can't hear them, causing tinnitus to everyone and hatred agains't you)

I went to a local audiologist that you can find in the yellowpages. Ask for musician earplugs, they are molded to your ear and you can choose from 9 or 15 or 25 decibel reduction. I choose 15. A bit costy but, i can't put a price on my hearing, if it would have costed 1000$ i would have paid it, luckily it is only like 200$. The only company who fabricates these filters are etymotic labs based in the USA. Comapred with normal cushion-like filters, they don't muffle the sound, it filters the high frequencies and the extremely low.

Swimming in water creates way more pressure against your eardrum than any speaker could.

By low frequencies, I mean 20 hz (under this, you can't listen to it but you can feel the vibration with your body) to 200 hz. So basically, a subwoofer destroys your ears as well than a mid-low/mid-high frequencies speakers. So obviously, a sound at 12000hz will make your internal ear to vibrate 12000 times in a second. Making the sound louder, the sound will always do 12000 vibrations BUT the distance of the vibration will be bigger.

DBs are relative. DBs are used on a scale to locate what level is a sound louder or lower than an another sound (Jet Launch, Silence, Forest ambience, blablabla) (everyone has seen the little scheme one time in their life).
120 DB is the limit where you can feel pain (that's about the sound that the metro does when it arrives in a station btw)

SO
If we go straight to the point :
Your ears will vibrate 12000 times in a seconde at a distance of what 120 DB makes them go. They will get tired more faster than 20 vibrations of 20 hz...obviously. But the damage is the same since the distance of your internal ear will be the same since they go at the distance of 120 DB. But you won't feel pain until a long while (and that's only if you cut only the high frequencies).

ha the fletcher-munson curve basically explains it.

Don't get me wrong I figure bass could damage your hearing as well, but our ears are the most sensitive to frequencies I think between something like 5000 - 8000 hz, which is where the clarity of speech lies.

yeah, and the ear has a self defence mecanism that protects itself from low frequencies, under 1k, but the use of drugs can make your brain not deploy this protection.
