hehehe... I wasn't at the party but from what I gather it was quite the clusterfuck of a party.
I wouldn't have allowed the other promoters/djs the use of the main room's system.

How many parties have you seen security at? Sure, maybe one or two raves a year have pro security (Rewire comes to mind) but 99% of the time they're total sketch-fests, and if someone with a weapon wants to hurt someone else, or if some people decide to beat on someone, who's gonna do anything? 30 kids on E?

There was an In Da Jungle at the rainbow years ago where some drug-dealer outside pulled a knife on a friend of mine because he wanted her drink, and then when Galaksy and someone else came to tell him to fuck off he tried stabbing them and they had to bolt for a cab and call the cops to haul them away.

I generally cary the baton around whenever I go out because for a while I was doing lots of urban exploration, and you never know who or what you're gonna run into in an abandoned building (I once almost got attacked by a rakoon)..

But when it comes to parties, the day they start being actual safe and secure with propper security to handle shit-starters is the day I'll stop bringing the baton out with me.

If I had known Screwhead, I probably wouldn't have had any shame in smacking the guy the grabbed me around a little more :) I was worried that I didn't have any back-up if he decided to be an even bigger asshole back.

In all seriousness, while it isn't much of an issue most of the time, I tend to feel much, much better at parties with security. Because when things like this happen, I know who to turn too...
I'm feeling pleasently spent right now..

ya - a big well-publicized party without security can = disaster.

I remember this big multi-loft party that these artists threw in Toronto - New Years Eve 2004

there was 3 rooms. one techno/breaks, one D&B/breakcore, and one oldskool jungle - something like that

no security whatsoever.

it had been advertised on torontojungle, purerave and torontoraves for at least a month prior - so anybody could know about it and show up

so anyway I was playing the oldskool jungle room. but what happened was after last call at the bars, all these thugs gravitated to this huge unprotected loft party and started wreaking havoc

they were robbing people of their jackets, a couple people got bottled, they took a photographer's camera and smashed it on the floor - one guy even got a gun flashed at him

the loft owners were so upset

this was all happening in the other rooms, so I was oblivious to it all until people told me later.

but it shows how out-of-control things can get, when there is no security to keep these assholes in check

People who are drunk by 1am and can't control themselves need to be ejected and head home.
I think he got the message the third time the bouncers dragged him the fuck out of there.

Well, I didnt know that in da jungle parties was that hard, lol. But for me nothing like this happen in 6 years of parties(I guess you avoid techno/techtrance parties). I agree, most of the parties lacks in security but small promoters with smaller budgets cant efford them.

Yeah, but sometimes just having one big friend you trust who isn't going to get fucked up standing around and keeping an eye on things in a security shirt is enough for small parties.

But for bigger parties it pays to go pro.

makes sense though, having to stand around being 'sober' for 10+ hours... must really suck espcially as the party gets bigger and better.
