That stereotype comes from people who used versions made before Cubase SX where you had tons of useless windows. I'd tend to say that if you don't want to use Cubase because you think it's hard, either you never tried it or you are simply lazy.

Did anyone gave Samplitude 8 a shot (I think they are up to V.9 now) ? It's pretty awesome!

I have been using Samplitude 8 for years now. I love that software cus you can do almost anything with it. It's also great at handling your computers resources.

The only minus would be assigning functions to a controller, but i'm guessing that they have that all ironed out by now.

They are actually up to version 10.
I'm feeling love right now..

*Hi five*

Have you ever tried it on an RME interface? You can link TotalMix straight to Sampli's mixer

I've done some A/B playback ear tests between Cubase, Nuendo, Live, Logic and Samplitude and guess who won? :P

*Hi five back*

If I cant get my emu soundcard fixed, I'll definitely check out the RME soundcards.

Samplitude sounds awesome, all i can say is that to my ears it sounds better than live. Cant say about the other ones, it's been years since i have worked with them.
I'm feeling love right now..

cubase is like the best program out there and used by most of the musicians out there.

logic pro is the top used program among producers today...always has been.
Cubase is used a lot for sure, but not more than Logic or Abelton

Logic playback came out 2nd on the test but for band tracking, it sucks donkey ball big time. You can't even disable recording while playing or just arming/disarming a track without a major lag specially on multiple tracking like an acoustic drum for example. But for MIDI sequencing, it really like it and the plugins aren't bad at all either.

Which version of logic did you do your testing with??
a lot of kinks have been worked out in version 8.
mind you... i can't record more than 2 channels at a time with my duet.
so i'm not the best judge.
but it definitely suits my needs pretty well.

wow...
i'm suprised.
you would think that would be a pretty sweet set up??
but what can you do... eh?
i've read about ppl having some issues with recording delay using the ff800 on the rme forums though...
i think there was a work around in the audio prefs, but it sounded too complicated for my blood...
i got no problems recording at the momement...
and you know what they say...
if it ain't broken... don't fix it...
a lesson i seem too have trouble getting through my head sometimes....
=)

The main issue with RME on mac is if you have a non Texas Instrument firewire port you might encounter problems of various nature. Luckily I bought mine just before they dropped T.I chip-set.

And I'm with 200% on that one: if it ain't broken... don't fix it...

Now I mostly use Live 7 and I'm a happy camper

yay!
