I've been meaning to play that game in forever. I'm a BIG FPS fan and this game veered so much off the beaten path I had to give it a go... and I wasn't disappointed. I'm so used to the usual "pick that better gun up, run up to the bad guys and blast them to Kingdom Come" whereas the weapon gameplay is probably the LAST thing you wanna do to get out of a situation. And I hate the critics because the whole reason they give a bad review is because of "poor combat". Duuuuuuuh. Faith is a nimble female who probably weights no more than 100 pounds. And she's a runner. Why would she be carrying a 50 pound sniper rifle around ? And why would she consciously want to fight a police officer with full riot gear with her bare childlike hands ? Of course combat is poor, the whole point of the game is to AVOID confrontation (that aside, the hand-to-hand combat is a lot better than a LOT of other games out there). My only gripe, as well as critics with whom I agree, is the occasional "try to make the jump, fall to you death, rinse, repeat" for sometimes more than 20 minutes trying to get it just right to continue on while the rest of the level is done at breakneck speeds. Fucking sucks when you've got blues firing at you as you try to make what seems like an impossible jump. That aside, the feel, the exhilaration, the speed and the sheer freedom you have as the main character is like crack. And the game mechanics work soooooooo well. Jumps and slides are done so effortlessly, it. just. works. Object hit detection is excellent and the game makes it so that Faith jumps at the appropriate time even if you press JUMP a bit too late. You genuinely feel like she's trying not to get killed. Despite the minor flaws, I luuuuuuuurv this game and am glad I purchased it. It's like nothing out there (not even Assassin's Creed). And what about that soundtrack ? Best soundtrack I've heard in a game in YEARS. And it just works so well with this type of game. I highly recommend it to those in need of something else than your average FPS. Even though it's a bit short. Btw Murdock, I'm at level 6 or 7. I thought the subway level was awesome. I just love how you run from rooftops to rooftops, you break a window and in a flash, you're running through huge building halls or shopping malls, jumping over cubicle desks and sliding down staircases, leaving security guards and policemen in the dust. |
