I've never given a flying fuck about politics my whole life.

But I sure hope these people don't win.

They are an embarrassment to the human race.
I'm feeling bass heavy right now..

I could never understand racism like this. Like I get the racism where if a black guy dresses all gangsta like, u might be afraid he has a gun and is gonna rob you. Its not so much racism as that you associate him with being sketchy. Cuz you would also be afraid if a white dude was all gangsta and sketchy too. Granted its still stereotyping, and it might not be right, but i understand the rationale...

But being afraid or disliking someone just cuz theyre black, ill never understand that...
I'm feeling hardstyle right now..

Well, you seem to have no problem with disliking someone based off of how they dress; disliking someone based off of their skin colour is just another external physical characteristic that people discriminate against and hate/disslike, only this one isn't a choice that the target made (like wearing pants 12 sizes too large)

Well if you choose to dress up in a stereotypical way, you must be ready to deal with other people reaction.

Like you said, it was his choice to dress up like that!

Yeah, I can understand that, but really, it's still just as much of a prejudice to feel uneasy around a 'gangsta' as it is to feel uneasy around a black person.

Just because it's a person's choice doesn't mean it's acceptable/right to discriminate against them for expressing how they feel and dressing in a way that's comfortable for them.

No...Im saying I understand stereotyping. Everyone does it. Its a way our brain simplifies life...heuristics or something like that. Life would be too complicated if we didn't so on some level everyone stereotypes.

I just don't understand how you could dislike someone or be afraid of them just cuz they were black...which is obviously how these people feel about Obama. Like either they dislike him cuz he's black, which I could never understand. Or they're afraid of him cuz he's black, for which I wonder, "why?"
Update » Gamos wrote on Tue Oct 21, 2008 @ 9:32am
Yeah, screwheads right. Its really the same thing. Like if you dislike someone cuz they're black, like these people its racism. But if someone was like "Im afraid that Obama would be a bad leader, cuz lots of black people make poor choices, and I figure why take the chance?"....thats the same as saying "Im afraid of walking through the alley with that guy who's dressed as a gansta cuz he might have a gun and be a rapist, and I figure, why take the chance"

Well I don't say it's not right, it's not acceptable, but what I mean is if you don't want to be discriminate, well you have the choice to change your look to look more blend!

I'm sorry, Jojo, but I have to disagree with you on that one. The guy can dress however the fuck he wants. You're basically giving the basis of racism right there. "Look like us or be rejected".

It applies to blacks as a whole. Would you tell an african american to dress and speak caucasian to "blend in"? Or a gay, to act straight or be discriminated against? The point is, while it's a normal part of life to associate ideas together and read messages in the way people act or dress, discrimination is discrimination and you can't blame the victim as being the trigger to you discriminating against someone.

It'd be like saying "I raped her because she dresses slutty". That kind of logic... ugh.

:D

He obviously chose to dress the way he wanted. And you have no more right to discriminate against it than if he had dressed in a three piece suit.

Et Daf, je pense que a un certain point, ils se sentent obligés. Ca dépend des cultures, par contre. Certains ont adopté un code vestimentaire pas mal similaire, depuis l'occupation Britanique (i.e. Inde).

ok then, if you walk around and see someone with a nazi sing on his t-shirt saying kill all immigrants, then its wrong to judge them?

Technically, yes. However, there is an inscribed message of hate and promise of violence. A large hoodie and low pants do NOT signify a promise of violence nor a message of hate!

If your "gangstah" walked around with a gun in his hand and a t-shirt saying "kill whitey", then I would not blame you for thinking he wants you harm.

i.e. Would you call this man a rapist? I mean, he HAS rape glasses, so he HAS to be a rapist, right?

I mean, seriously, until you know the person to be doing something, or wanting to do something, you have no call to judge. If he's publicizing his thoughts on a shirt, sure, if you feel like it. He's made the choice to show his opinion and you have a right to be against it. But you can't judge someone because he doesn't dress the way you want him to be dressed.

I think that baseball caps are about the worse piece of headwear someone can wear but I'm not going to start thinking you're all beneath me because of it :)

Anyway, back to Obama, I do think that racial guilt will stir votes towards McCain, sadly. The world is deeply flawed ;)

Not my definition of the term. :P

And Jojo, I know :( We're all guilty of it. We have to learn as humans that there's a difference between "formulating an opinion based on experience" and "judging at first sight". Judging is easier, so we do it more often...
