| Coolness: 685685 | Yeah, I can understand that, but really, it's still just as much of a prejudice to feel uneasy around a 'gangsta' as it is to feel uneasy around a black person.
Just because it's a person's choice doesn't mean it's acceptable/right to discriminate against them for expressing how they feel and dressing in a way that's comfortable for them. |

It applies to blacks as a whole. Would you tell an african american to dress and speak caucasian to "blend in"? Or a gay, to act straight or be discriminated against? The point is, while it's a normal part of life to associate ideas together and read messages in the way people act or dress, discrimination is discrimination and you can't blame the victim as being the trigger to you discriminating against someone. It'd be like saying "I raped her because she dresses slutty". That kind of logic... ugh. :D |

And you have no more right to discriminate against it than if he had dressed in a three piece suit. If your "gangstah" walked around with a gun in his hand and a t-shirt saying "kill whitey", then I would not blame you for thinking he wants you harm. i.e. Would you call this man a rapist? I mean, he HAS rape glasses, so he HAS to be a rapist, right? 
I mean, seriously, until you know the person to be doing something, or wanting to do something, you have no call to judge. If he's publicizing his thoughts on a shirt, sure, if you feel like it. He's made the choice to show his opinion and you have a right to be against it. But you can't judge someone because he doesn't dress the way you want him to be dressed. I think that baseball caps are about the worse piece of headwear someone can wear but I'm not going to start thinking you're all beneath me because of it :) Anyway, back to Obama, I do think that racial guilt will stir votes towards McCain, sadly. The world is deeply flawed ;) |
