Does anyone have any experience with it? My chip supports it it was cheaper to get 4gb ram than 2, so i was thinking of using 64 bit XP when i format this week. Other than driver compatibility issues, is there anything else i should be aware of?

Funny you mention this 64 bit stuff. i was just talking to a friend about this as he need's to set up his PC with it for work.

IF i understand correctly, it's really only for people who need to work in 64 bit. Alot of standerd software will not work properly, if not even at all unless its the new 64 version of the software.

Basically, it's one of those things that, if you don't need it, don't use it. :)

from what i hear. :)

ya that's what i've heard too, i was just hoping for specifics as some of the issues may not apply to me. No chance I'm putting vista (32 or 34) on and I believe the next edition of windows is still a ways off.

hmmm..

xp man, dont put vista until another 2-3 years.

and the only big difference you should know about 64 bit is if you are doing work that use a LOT of ram, i mean, more than 4 gig, because 64 bit supports up to 8gig, otherwise, its pretty useless,

yes it runs a tad faster but the difference is not there to compensate for the lack of compatibility for certain programs.

now almost every new computer is 64 bit, but installing a 32 OS wont be a problem, its just you wont be able to use the full 8 gig (considering you HAVE 8 gig of ram in your computer!)

and vista sucks, no questions about it

ill have 4, which is kinda a waste of 1gb given 32bit XP's 3gb limit. Not touching vista, was never going to. Guess ill go with 32b XP and wait till windows 09 or wtv comes out.

yeah 3 gb sorry i said 4

but do you really use all of your 3gb? most of the time?

if yes, will only 1gb more will change a thing (considering if you are on a program that use 3 gb, then 4 gb wont be doing THAT much difference, you may want to go to 8gb!!)

64bit is alright... You just have a Program_Files directory and a Program_Files_32 for the older 32bit software...

My experience with vista is that it's pretty good now. Unless all your hardware is ancient, everything supports vista now... It's also way faster doing most things.

in that case, can it manage 32bit drivers? like for a device or wtv that doesnt have a 64bit version available.

Im running 64bit vista on my laptop and almost no software I`ve tried to install functions... drivers seem to be the issue for software that uses external devices (ie.serato) and otherwise, I need to install 32bit apps under program files 68 folder... I like the feel and look, but it sucks that I can`t use most programs :(

I guess its just gunna be a waiting game for developers to catch up...

Ufot-beta, where for art though?
Update » ufot wrote on Tue Aug 12, 2008 @ 2:34pm
I`ve actually been emailing back and forth with serato, Im apparently now on a list for beta testing 64bit drivers that their development team is working on... should be hopefully sometime in september
I'm feeling lies wif da hax!! right now..

nuclear : in the last news i had, a few times ago, almost all of the music-making sound cards were still having lots of problems with vista!

i hope the new windows will not have the same bad error that vista has
