The massive problem right now is taste the rainbow and what is going to happen at that party. There were numerous problems witht he party the other night and also with project plur... Atleast if shit happens in town Im less worried, but to go outside the city and deal with this...

Mkay, now you got me scared. :S

I gotta say that the most ANNOYING and STRESSFUL thing I have to deal with when gigging is the lack of a proper set up or a set up that dosen't work.

I once got booked to play a private party where they had the soundsystem in one room and the decks in another. So basically I couldn't see nobody while I was playing and had no monitor. Every two songs I'd have someone run out of the other room, telling me to switch the music cause the girl whose bday it was decided she was more into rnb then electro at the last minute (I got booked to play electro, which was what I brought, but they decided I was "too underground" 10 minutes into my set). After which the girl gets her idiot boyfriend to come argue with me about reducing my fee while I'm still playing.

Total gig from hell.

I never worked with that promoter again. Its really stressful to be put in the position where you can't work properly so I can understand Host's frustration. The guy dragged his decks out to make the party happen! Personally I always charge a rental fee if I have to bring equipment. That shit is heavy, fragile, expensive and a nuisance to carry around.

He deserves to be compensated and an apology.

that sounds disastrous!
People don't understand how insulting it is to be told to play a different style or to take requests of music they could probably hear on Mix 96 if they turned the radio on right then.
simply wack, and dj in a separate room? ouch

reminds me of a halloween party I played at a few years ago.. some asian girl comes up to me and says something to the equivalent of "I know you like this kind of music you're playing, but why don't you play something that people actually listen to, like some destiny's child?".. Then, about 5 minutes later, guy who booked me KNOWING that I play drum and bass, comes up and asks me if I've got anything slower with me, because drum and bass isn't suposed to be this fast, it's supposed to be more like house, and that I should stop playing hardcore (as Concord Dawn - Morning Light is playing, right after Be There For You..)

some people don't have a fucking clue.
I'm feeling penishands right now..

no, it doesnt... this being public mean that
1. as a raver i know to run like hell when i see this promoter and stay home instead of spending and regretting 20$
2. as a dj I know I aint gonna agree on a gig at a rave by these clowns...

the calender is filled with shitty parties... reviews (good or bad) helps people make good decisions on which parties to attend and which to run away from

Seriously, it's not called nightlife REVIEWS for no reason.
Get mad and do something, people.
... and know what not to do based on others' experiences and past events.
This whole "keeping the peace" attitude thing is getting on my nerves. These problems affected the whole outcome of the rave, I think everyone has a right to have their say on the situation.

PS: YOU QUESTIONED MY TALENT MOTHERFUCKER!???

I HAVE MORE TALENT IN MY PINKY FINGER THAN YOU HAVE IN YOUR WHOLE BODY!
I'VE PLAYED FULLER, MORE RESPECTABLE GIGS THAN YOU EVER HAVE IN THE SPAN
OF YOUR PATHETIC 15 YEAR CAREER! JUST BECAUSE YOU'LL PLAY FOR 2 PILLS AND
A BEER DOESN'T MEAN OTHERS CAN'T HAVE STANDARDS YOU FUCKING DOLT!
I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU WOULD ACTUALLY CALL ME OUT LIKE THIS AND PUSSY OUT
LIKE YOU ALWAYS DO! NOW YOU'VE INSULTED MY INTELLIGENCE, SO I'M READY
TO SEE WHAT YOU'LLL REALLY SAY FACE A FUCKIN FACE ESPECE DE PUTE!

YOU'RE NOBODY!
FUCK YOU!

ALEX!I said i know u got you talent, and you got certain stereophonic
demands which is great but sometimes shit happens and its never fun
but we try to adapt to the situation(noah & company saved the day)
hell,i like to play on proper equipement!
For sure the promoters should have realized that d&b djs need turntables
i took metro & bus with my cdj, cds, viynles as did other djs who brought
there heavey cases 4 nothing!
But anyway the point is that might as well play even though the sounds
shitty,it was okay for me!

As for playing for pills that only proves you dont know me! lol
Anyway all i know is that people came to hear you and they would have
liked to enjoy your set even with shitty sound!

As for studio loco you would have got 40$ like sarcastic & others
if you would have played but you ditched out because the speakers werent
host1 approved!
Anyway you are playing for the st jean baptiste party at the six feet high scene so please no drama cause i know your a nice guy,and i dont really care
what you think of me so ya rave on homies ....lol
I'm feeling banana stuck in me right now..

Sorry that I have to take everything as I read it, but that's what I do.
If I was wrong about how you do business then I'm sorry, but from what I
know, you don't care too much about getting compensated for gigs sabi
(or maybe I'm completely wrong again, I give everyone the benefit of the doubt).
But this time I was clearly being jilted and disrespected. I'll remember to
make sure to charge people for my services from now on. Don't expect any free
rides from Host One anymore, I'm not a 16 year old amateur Dj.

Better luck next time.

Wow, I like your last post Dee, I thought a good 3 min before writting. Well, I never said I disagree with Alex arguments and situation, I simply said that the way he put it on the table wont help. What, you prefer "War making attitude"? I dont think that's part of the our values.

I'm not trying to make "war" I'm trying to make people realize that if you
book a professional disc jockey to be your fuckin work horse for a room,
at least PAY him, and tell him in advance that he has a lot more work to
do than just setting up his tables. That was bullshit.

mmmk...

lets face it:
- the sound was bad.
- the organsation was 'questionable'
- the venue could have some potential if it wasnt pitch black when i showed up. (major props to Noah who solved that issue!)

i still had a decent time none the less, meeting some new ppl there and still hopeful that the promoters learned from their mistakes and Taste the Rainbow will be better organized with decent equipment.

this was my review.
cheers!

Woah there, when did I say you disagreed with anyone? I'm talking about the whole "oh who cares about the problems, still had a good time, let's not talk about it" attitude. Yes, it is very much possible to have fun at a badly organized party but you shouldn't be scared to properly review the party itself.. and that means including the negative comments (if any).
What I'm seeing here is a serious problem when it comes down to what new promoters dare call 'raves' and I don't think anyone should be so laid back about it as to accept this [*shrug*+ "oh well, was fun, better luck next time"] bit.
Hahah, I shouldn't even bother, I'll take a more intimate party in a loft with alcohol and good music over a "rave" any day of the week but guyiiz dis iz yo' since (/no one makes since jokes beyond this point, please).
I'm feeling super trendy right now..

No no Alex, I know you're not trying to make any "war", I was simply making reference to Dee's post, lol. Yep im for proper reviews too, negative or not is just I dont see the point of adding swears in it(whatever the event review). Seriously, do you comply or listen when someone swearing at you?

That's my point.
