I dunno about ice cream, but there's gelato or sorbet made with carob (or however that stuff is spelled) for people who can't have milk, so that counts as veggie, also :P

The faux-beef stuff is fuckin' amazing.. I actually just did it with fake ground chicken, it was fucking amazing, my stomach just had multiple orgasms.
I'm feeling like cheezing right now..

I'm glad you guys have mentioned this because I've been looking for a place where I could buy a sort of veggi-stewing beef --if it even exists. All my veggi hippy friends don't know of anywhere to find it, so I'm one of you guys would know.
I'm feeling cool right now..

Don't go with the dehydrated TVP stuff, that isn't really that great for your health. There's this stuff called "veggie ground round" that I used to buy all the time, but I think a good alternative is to get a variety of dried mushrooms and chop them up finely, add a bunch of boiled lentils, and mash that stuff together.

If you want to get the stewing beef consistency you probably want to find Seitan, that might be the answer. Either that or Tempeh.
I'm feeling in the shit right now..

Can this stuff be found at my local grocery store?

Also, I'm really unfamiliar to cooking with veggi products, so I'm concerned on how to get that beef flavour (unless the flavour is already added?). Considering the dish I'm looking to prepare, the flavour comes straight from the beef, and knowing how picky some of the vegetarians can get, I'm asking myself what could replace the natural juices to get the desired taste, without "crossing the foul line", so to speak.

Any suggestions?

the veggie ground beef is in pretty much every Metro I've been to, with the exception of the one up north in Val David. It's fucking amazing.. There's diffrent flavoured ones also; Mexican = chili/taco pre-flavoured, Asian = ginger-ish, Italian = italian spaghetti sauce/lasagna meat.. there's also plain fake beef and fake chicken. They're all fuckin' amazing.

I love the mexican the most; 5 minutes in the microwave in a bowl, 30 seconds for 6 small tortillias, and some salsa = tacos in under 6 minutes.

well, in my case, I'm not veggie by choice, I'm veggie 'cause of irritable bowel syndrome and I can't eat meat anymore (even the meat that's suposed to be "safe" like chicken, my IBS is way more sensitive to things than average).. I like vegetables (well, some of them), but I really can't cook for shit, so fake meat works out great; it's pre-cooked, so mostly it just needs a microwaving and it's good to go.

It's because there's this particular dish that I'm looking to make for some of my friends who are vegetarian (I'm not fyi), and I was curious to know if there was some kind of substitute for stewing beef.

the stuff I was talking about is ground beef, but if you want stuff that's more "chunks" to stew, they make that shit, too. It should all be in the same (veggeterian) section of metro/iga. I dunno how many diffrent types there are (the metro near my place's veggie section keeps shrinking every 4 months) but they make fake beef and fake chicken strips that are good to cook with.
