I have the phone logs on my telus bill to prove I was on the phone with support but support claims I never called those days. I guess I must have been talking to myself. But seriously there is no way I was on the phone for 45 minutes at the videotron number talking to myself. I even had a manager try to get the recordings... But now they have no record of me ever talking to the manager!!! Should have taken everyone's name but I didn't. Ow well... rant rant... I'm going to return that modem but I ain't paying the 2 months. I'm super glad videotron can't wreck my credit with the banks... I don't really care about my videotron credit.

Heh. Well unless you manage to find a sympathetic manager over there, you're pretty much fucked.

But you're right, utility bills, although they show up on your credit history, don't mean much, so that's good.

*cough* I'd recommend giving 'em a fake number and forwarding address, tell them you moved or sumthing *cough*... Used to be that their system would only keep track of the most recent address, even on invoices. Not sure if that's still valid, but V2-1 is right, they have the shittiest dos-based system ever :)

... @ Host... What? :)

Only if he'd take up the service at a new address would moving fees apply.
Ehhh yeah, does make me wonder if they closed that moving out of province (hence, their network) loophole.

the cynic in me says yes, but that may be a legal or crtc thing out of their control. In which case, to the OP: hows the weather in Ontario?

Also, videotron says they give 45 days notice about the end of a contract =p

exactly,

videotron's contract's NEVER expire.. they just renew.. like a porn site.. hehe.. until you request to have your account cancelled at the end of the term (12 months)..

Noah is getting charged because he is cancelling his service EARLY, not because he lost service for 2 months..

Noah, my advice is to pay them what they state you owe them.. your credit (not only with videotron) is worth ALOT more than 160$ (yes, even to jewish people hehe, kiddin)..

The reason i say this is because i work at a bank and trust me, if you don't settle with videontron you probably will never be able to get a decent mortgage rate on your house nor will banks give you loans. They don't care what debt you didn't pay.. they have all the leverage right now and not paying is just as bad as walking backwards in a Corn Field.. :p

good luck man !

Well a $160 unpaid utility bills used to mean squat to me as a credit analyst @ Citibank (albeit for small 10k credit lines), as long as there was other, more significant credit history established. Y'know, Visa, MC, loans not maxed out and paid on time.

Geez I've had the lamest jobs.

But yeah, that Videotron contract is especially evil. Personally Noah, I'd try telling them you moved, but feel free to follow Clown's advice...

consult a lawyer, if you didnt *signed* the contract physically, quebec's laws protect you, you dont have a contract, they cant force you to pay them, its illegal, but most people dont know, so they pay.
Ask a lawyer, and make him send them a letter, with you keeping a copy.

unsigned contracts are bullshit in quebec.

but they make you think otherwise, because they want money

videotron is still better than bell, whatever happens!

yes and not, you wont be getting a lawyer to go to court

its a less-than-an-hour consultation, if you get someone who wont charge too much, maybe around 100$, videotron will not touch your credit at all, and they did, they will even make excuses if they touched your credit.

i prefer paying more for a lawyer and shutting them up than paying them and they laugh at you.

i wouldn't waste a penny on lawyers...
videotron are fuckin' goofs.
state your case to them clearly and threaten to take legal action if harassment ensues...
that should be enough to get em off your back.
just make sure you are talking to the right person.

SIgning a written contract or not, when you installed videotron hs service, you clicked Accept on the EULA....check the agreement, it most likely says that the contract automatically renews....
Good Luck fighting the man

Actully in quebec there is a verble contract its one of the loop holes quebec has. so therefore it can be done.

^^^ What are you talkin about?
Verbal contract doesn't apply here, (and it is one of what loop holes and pertaining to what exactly) and therefore what can be done?
Too many thoughts in one sentence there Sparky!

He actually accteped their terms of use by clicking ACCEPT when he installed Videotron HS.
He didn't just tell his computer I accept.

In my file they claim my account should have been canceled on November 1st... But the girl made a mistake... But they have it in the file that she said it would be canceled... She wrote November 1st but on the phone she told me December 1st... But videotron claims it should be February 1st of the next year... As far as I'm concerned if they have in my file that the girl wrote it would be canceled then it should have... Even if she did make a mistake.
