I agree with you on this wholeheartedely, but stop for a moment and consider WHY police brutality is of a lesser degree today than it was during Prohibition or even as recently as the 1960's.

Did the cops just decide to be nicer? I highly doubt it.

Instead, its because people got fed up with police brutality and decided to do something about it. Whether its taking to the streets in protest, drafting a new law, or reporting on police brutality in the media, its only because of activism that the powers of the cops have been reigned in.

We may not be able to prevent every single instance of police brutality, because that would be near impossible. But so long as cops continue to abuse their powers, its our job to interrupt our daily routine for at least one day and take to the streets in a show of support for the victims.
I'm feeling royally fucked right now..

Sorry mate, but i don't think worrying about getting arrested is pathetic. Since i was arrested last time, i have to "keep the peace". So, if i get arrested again for protesting, i'm in twice as much trouble. And just spending the night in jail is not the worst thing. Waiting in the cold for hours for the police busses, after having been surrounded and squeezed, getting pushed to the ground, stepped on and cuffed by 7 cops, near strangled by another, losing my weed, having my dog collar and bracelets taken away as evidence, spending the night with 60 punks in cells desinged for 16, having your name thrown into the system, and then spending the next 6 years in court. That's the reality of being arrested at a protest in montreal.

Anyway, i'm just being responsible for my own life, and that's not pathetic, but if you've not gone through the adventure yourself, by all means, go for it. But realize that at every protest, 4 douchebags ruin the rally for everyone else by breaking a window or some lame thing, and all the peaceful anti-police-violence peops end up paying the price, and the message becomes lost.

Eitherway, i encourage people to go flex their rights, go stand up for the little people, protest for a necessary cause, and let motrealers know that some police officers abuse their power...of course, an anti-busting-of-raves protest would be great too... .. .

so support those who have the balls to protest, but don't insult those who don't want to live through the ironic journey of being beat on at a COBP rally. Besides, i do my part by playing speeches like this at raves:

"20 000 hardcore members, 40 00 counting affiliates, and 20 000 more not organized but ready to fight...60 000 soldiers; now there ain't but 20 000 police in the whole [ town....ca ] you dig it, can you dig it!"
-the warriors

wow this is a stupidly long post...

peace :P

I'd said it before in a post in the news section and I'll say it again here; when there's some sort of massive police brutality/injustice, we should totally FREAK THE FUCK OUT and outright go to war with them. Surround a police station, throw rocks and molotov coctails through the windows, set ALL of their cars (and ONLY the cop cars) on fire. A protest does JACK SHIT, it's just like praying; a feel-good load of bullshit to make you feel like you tried something while remaining as passive and inactive as you can comfortably get away with.

Police brutality should be met with one hundred fold the amount of violence they dish out. Like the quote Na posted right above; "20 000 hardcore members, 40 00 counting affiliates, and 20 000 more not organized but ready to fight...60 000 soldiers; now there ain't but 20 000 police in the whole [ town....ca ] you dig it, can you dig it!"

Revolution and change doesn't happen with peace and protest, it happens with violence and force. A man never truly acts untill another man truly dies.

What people need to do is take what the kids in france are doing, but bump it to a more focused attack; where those kids went wrong is that they trashed stores and their neighbors cars and homes. That's not going to accomplish anything other than get the general population to agree with the cops for using extreme violence. In case you haven't noticed, the only things that matter to most people are their stuff and their money. So if anyone actually does something, they shouldn't be flipping over civilian's cars or breaking shop windows, they should instead be concentrating their efforts on the people that they have a problem with; the police.

Hell, if you look over at the UK, the police is SCARED of teenagers! [ www.telegraph.co.uk ]
I'm feeling fuckin' crazy right now..

Violence against police is wasted effort. They are merely doing a job, not to say they don't do a bad job on occasion, but if you really want to change something you need to go above the police as you aren't going to outfight the police and most people are quite happy with the status quo so you surely won't get a revolution.

The Police are like any other job, some are good some are bad, you might need to bite your tongue and be respectful when they deal with you. I've had a few run ins with police mainly over the fact I tend to wind up in places I shouldn't be, but being polite and respectful has led to me getting no charges ever laid, had my name run a few times, been searched a few times but usually they are pretty understanding as long as you don't just scream at them.
I'm feeling moodless right now..

Yeah the diffrence being that when police are bad at their job, people end up in comas or DIE. And who polices the police?

If a busdriver or taxidriver speeds and crashes killing someone, he loses his license. Cops should be no diffrent; violence should only be used if you're being attacked, just like guns should only come out if a weapon is out threatening you. If an unarmed person gets beaten into a coma by 5 cops, was he really THAT much of a threat?
I'm feeling fuckin' crazy right now..

Funny you should mention that Screwhead. In the news today :

Guy was carrying and a fucking Xacto which he wouldn't drop. Result ? Shot in the legs by 3 cops. Could they at least try PEPPER SPRAY ? Apparently not.

Please people, listen to the police : don't drink and drive. Note : does NOT apply to police officers apparently.

We should organize a protest for police STUPIDITY, not BRUTALITY.

Pretty dumb idea... It's been tried over and over again and has never made a difference. There will always be corrupt cops. Even if they eliminate all of the corrupt cops we have now, more will join the force tommorow. Manifesting doesn't do anything to help. It's just an excuse to go out and cause havoc and maybe rioting. We all know how it will end already... More arrests, more brutality and more anger on both sides of the law.

If you realy wanna fight police brutality, become a news caster with a grudge and get it on camera whenever possible, then go after the individual offending officers. There is absolutely nothing else you can do. Have fun with your manifest, try not to be the ones to get your heads beat in by the pissed off cops who will get away with it as always because you'll be seen as the ones who caused it and NO ONE WILL CARE! Maybe 2 or 3 cops out of all of them will get a short susspension in exchange for the good exscuse to bust your heads! Good luck!

... I might go just to watch the show from a distance and maybe get some good shots of cops beating on people.. :-D
I'm feeling magical right now..

we need an anti riot police training camp.... but more realisticly....
I think everyone on ravewave should be going to this. Wats ravewave for but freedom of expression? and who's the archenemy of expression but the cops. All a matter of opinion but even if your not some punk with a mohawk you should still go. Your not going to get arrested if you stay on the sidelines and keep an eye out for for police rushes so you don't get stuck in one. Come out anyway even if your not much of an anarchist, bring your camera's, document. thats how you'll make a change. If you think you can't make a change then you already failed. Take enough photo's, get enough evidence and follow through on reports and you can. o and by the way i mention this on any thread with cops in it..... FUCK THE POLICE!!!!!!!
