Most cops being older probably indentify with the punk scene more cause it was around when they were younger,

When they go to a rave, they can't relate, so they bust it.

They also know that ravers won't kick up a fuss cause they're peaceful, on the other hand punks will probably start a riot and break everything if the cops try to break up the show...too stressful

Its a fascinating social dynamic

I agree that this should make sense, but for some reason the cops have a very special way of leaving punk shows alone. Take the L.C.B show at centre fractale, three fights broke out, windows were broken, people were shootin' up and fucking in the washrooms...not one cop showed up. Three days later I went to a rave, again at centre fractale...not a single fight...sure lots of drugs too, but done more discretely....and [ tadam...com ] 2 am the cops shut it down...having gone to both events I found this completely confusing, and no one else seems to get it either...anyway for some reason or another cops don't bust down shows in the punk scene (unless you happen to be at Leftover Crack's show :p). So in theory the punk scene IS more deserving of a police crackdown, but the reality is that we don't get it.

I think that has more to do with public perception. Punk shows are concerts. Raves are drug fests where innocent young people get taken advantage of by drug dealers, and as a result become retards overnight and have a 50% chance of dying everytime they rave cuz of all the E they take.
I'm feeling mcdonalds right now..

Cops leave punk shows alone because punks buy their drugs from the right sources.

Punks have way more in common with metalheads than ravers.
Cops dont leave punks alone... by any stretch of the imagination.
Punks shows dont get shut down cus they are in bars and over by 3. Legal and legit.

The only punks-like ravers I saw lately are between
16 and 20 years old, dancing on Happy Hardcore
and they're really really really really nice persons

I don't see any problems about punks in raves
I should bring my studz bracers in raves again :p

Somebody should tell punks there's nothing cool or rebellious about stinking,

I got stuck in the Metro beside a crusty punk today and I nearly passed out,

true for out of town bands or the big well known bands but then there are the shows at local squats, like the ones at L.B. Hotel, they pretty much operate in the same way as raves, just big parties where local bands play for free (or in exchange for non-monetary substance ;) or for simple publicity) to entertain the kids of the scene that go on til 8 in the morning and I still have yet to see one get busted. I totally agree that the scene is not immune to harassment from cops. Punks are
Poor
Underprivileged
Neglected
Kids
who use years of social alienation as a driving force for artistic means of expression and have adopted DIY ethics because they have learned that no one else cares about or will take care of us except for ourselves, metalheads on the other hand are a bunch of satanic hicks that use no poetic device in their music, sing about girls, fast cars, anger and alcohol and have nothing to do with a sense of a self-supporting youth community. The parallels between punk (before the scene lost its way) and the rave community seem to run deeper. Anti-racist, anti-sexist ethics mixed with a bon-vivant attitude of: no one said reality would be perfect but fuck it! lets stick together, take care of each other and party like there's NO FUTURE.
I'm feeling feverish :( right now..

"punk" is such a wide genre. different scene started at different places, diff. times with diff. values.
europe is very diff. also than america..

personally i went to hardcore "punk" music events and listen it sometimes at the right occasioni don't like everything.. and there's so much litt. and other form of art attached to that large movement...

so large that it would be stupid to call it a movement now and put people into categories.

ok...heu.. what was the question: "punks at raves, welcome? 4 how long?"

woops i just don't care. drug is bad.
I'm feeling hitched right now..

Try locally, go at Foufounes Electriques on a thursday and see a whole other definition of " punk ". One that would send real mohawk wearing punkers into disgust-induced vomiting.
I'm feeling dramatic. f**k off right now..

True i have been way out of the punk scene for years and years.
But in the 80's and early 90's, the only peoples us punks could remotely relate to where the metalheads, sure they where'nt as politicaly enclined as us punks, but they party'd like us and there music wasnt half bad. (D.R.I. rocked)
Eventualy i came to my senses (sobered up) and realised that the "no future" creed was just an excuse for being a looser.
Who in the various punk communitys has ever changed or influenced the world in any meaningfull way? (Appart from the obvious flakes like Sid Vicious)
I came to realise that its not by running away and marginalising myself from society that i would have any type of positive impact on the world. (And that most of the peoples in the movement where more into booze than anything else)
So yeah, I'm glad to hear that part of the punk movement today is going places,
but i still have a hard time seeing what F.T.W. and P.L.U.R have in common.
I'm feeling r.i.p. chica right now..

i went often to fouf since i'm teen and i don't really know about wich kind of specific person or group you are referring to... but hell i almost talk to nobody when i go there.. majority of time i just go up see my friend mutante..

i would not call "punk" these people anyway. maybe they are wearing the commercial uniform.. and that's why it confuse you.. i think they are mostly humans having sexual problems and drink/drugs problems.. maybe that's why they have behaviors who bother you.

i will certainly don't call that "punk".

there's anybody here having read some pamphlet of the collective/band crass? .. anti-racism, anti-consumerism, anti-war, anti-corporatism, anti-globalization, anti-racism, environmentalism, the separation of church and state, animal rights, feminism....ect very interesting stuff.

i don't think if i go sit with the annoying people that you are talking about at fouf they will have long to say about feminism or theses subject and i wouldn't have great intellectual conversation with them.

i don't know people's presence don't bother me often so i suppose i don't care.. the only thing is that i'm a very clean person who smell very good ( i love showers & parfum..) and dirty people bother me***. but after all, i just have to move the fuck away..

and..
are the people that you are talking about did something wrong to you as a group?

*** well hmm after sport or physical activities i think it might be alright. but ONLY during this time it is ok. jesus i could write a book.
I'm feeling hitched right now..
