bell's dsl sucks ass, i work for distributel and we sell thier dsl, and we have a lot of problem, and most of the isp that sells dsl work on bell's network.

but again videotron works the same way with bandwith restriction and limitation, but thier service is faster. in any way, having hi speed service in quebec mean you get screwed.

just get a service with no traffic limits!
I'm feeling hardcore right now..

I use Colba Net, which means 5Mbps DSL UNLIMITED MONTHLY BANDWIDTH for $35.00

If you are close to their backbone, you can go ADSL2+ and get 12Mbps (or is it 24M?) for the same price. No slowdowns either.

But don't pass the word around too much... ;)

Ya but Noah but I don't have to be a dick about uploading torrents either. When I download a file with Azureus, after d/l is complete, it becomes available for upload immediately and I just leave it there up for grabs for a few hours. I prefer to use all my bandwidth to download FIRST, then I just leave Azureus running and do other stuff.

And capping uploads speeds, THAT doesn't seem fair to me. Say I download a 3Gb movie off one guy at 7Mbps, why would I restrict him uploading off me at 25k in return ? I download off him at 7Mbps first, he uploads off me at 7Mbps then. Everyone's happy and I don't have to be seeding for hours this way.
I'm feeling none of your bizness right now..

You must be the only person on this board with 7mbps upload speed. Most people with 7mbps dl have 1mbps ul... Therein lies the BEAUTY of torrents: even if the ONE PERSON who has the whole file only ul's 1mbps, there can be leechers filling their 7mbps pipes downloading it. How? Well, the uploader sends everyone a piece, and these (say 10) other people send exchange between themselves the other 9 pieces they together have, while all receiving additional pieces from the uploader and so on.

So, say the file is 100mb and the seeder can UL 1/10th of a MB per second, then you would expect that it would take 10 x 100 = 1000 seconds for the file to make it to each leecher. If there are 10 leechers, that is 10,000 seconds of filling his pipe to UL the file to 10 leechers.

But it doesn't work like that.

What happens is that he sends each of the 10 one piece, say 1mb per piece. Then while he is doing that, they exchange the pieces between themselves, so that in effect, he uploads the file ONCE and all 10 "leechers" have it because 9/10ths of the file on each of the leechers' HDD's comes from the other leechers. So the seeder is actually only filling his 1mbps of UL bandwidth for 1,000 seconds, not 10,000.

Now this only works if "leechers" are also uploading at the same time.

Shit. My bad then. Yeah, I didn't understand it this way.

Well then, I can't figure out why uTorrent wrecks my bandwidth some damn much then.

I have the ADSL2 24mbps from Colba Net. Download speeds are great (faster then Videotron) but there is a lag between page loads and sometimes a webpage just refuses to load unless I try twice. I'm getting used to it. I'm also not close to the main bell center. I'm at the border where they didn't know if they could support me or not.

I guess that means that for those who are close to the whatever-thingie, that ADSL2+ stuff will downright rawk your socks off... Time to move... :-S

We've got AEI here, probably the crappiest Bell reseller and I still manage to consistently get 300 to 400kB/s on most torrents, with 60 to 70 kB/s upload.

Might sound dumb, but if you have a router, make sure you're accepting incoming connections, i.e. open your port(s) --> [ www.portforward.com ]
I'm feeling tired x_x right now..

Yeah, my bell DSL went down like on Friday but i didn't called them till Monday, and today it's fixed. It was an external problem.
I don't need the speed. I just casual browsing and check emails. My Torrent activity are limited to UFC ppv, which is once per month.

Anyone got a triple package deal with either Bell or Videotron? I would like to have the phone, net, and finally cable TV consolidated.
Looking which one has the best offer and such.

I had the one with videotron. I consider them to be true assholes in every which way though, so I would recommend against it. So many problems, no consideration for the client, I would stay away from them.
