They possibly came from a family that is not well off and thus need to validate themselves that way after growing up and seeing other people who had more than they did.

defenitive truth!

You are right... It didn't seem appropriate to talk about it in the past until then... But you are definately right... as far as coming from a family that is not well off... as far as insecurities about stability, no, that isn't the reason...

Yes it does feel nice to have money... and yes, if someone keeps pushing about it, it'll be brought up one way or another... AlienZed knows what I'm talking about... I'm sure anyone that came from a less fortunate family growing up can honestly say that when you're earning your own money when you get a decent job, it does feel wonderful, especially to spend it on your family....

I don't think a nation is "dumber" than another, except possibly the english (that's just friendly banter)

every nations are different from a cultural point of view and every individual within a nation are different.
you'd be hard pressed to judge if one is "better" than the other. like Flo said I found the people more "honest" (yet more generalisations).

God I sound like a hippy now, somebody shoot me please.

Unseen : I disagree on the rappers but we shall leave it here or else this thread will mutate into a different kind of beast.

***so my question is : is it normal for people to boost about their income, friends and material possesions?***

***does money means an happy and successful life for you?***

I'm feeling reprogrammed right now..

I think it's weird. I don't make tons of money, but when I sarted making more than minimum wage, I realized that the worse thing to do is to brag about the money you got, or the things you have. It's the best way to have people try to take advantage of you, or robb you... And it happens, when you leave your new tv or computer box in front of your house, same damn thing! It should just be common sense, but it's not!!
I'm feeling chaton!! right now..

that's it. I'm very embarassed when someone ask how much I earn, I'll try to avoid answering because I feel people will look at you differently, might find a new interest in your personna for that silly (imo) reason.
If I'm going to be judged I'd like it to be on deeper level than the career moves I chosed.

If I was working my towards something meaningful in my live I wouldn't care what they thought because I may not see them again in years and suddenly I'll see them again and I'll be making more than them.

***SIMPLICITE VOLONTAIRE!***

I have family in several parts of europe and to generalize it to say that they dont discuss money is not correct at all. Its not based on where your from but who you are.

if people are having hard financial times or good times they will want to share in their feelings and discuss it with other either for insight or to reduce personal stress.

Ive never been approached or asked, how much I make. Perhaps if someone is interested in themselves in your field of business and wondering from an honest point of view how much it would be expected for themselves to make, I could see the reasoning to that but yet again i say Ive never been approached with these materialistic questions and I at once time was doing promotions for nightclubs and my job was to just talk to people. They wanted to know about me as an actual person. Even if they were on 5 pills of E...lol eww

Funny how in sevral countries in europe there are people walking around boating about there prada bag, gucci belt or some other designer gear they just purchased.

Its like it everywhere except for the 3rd world countries I would say. Bu thats an assumption and I couldnt say for sure that i am correct.
I'm feeling ewww free pretzel? right now..

Well fuknose, I've travelled quite a bit and lived in London for a year, L.A for 6 months, Beijing for a month and a half, Tokyo for a few weeks, etc... and except for Asian countries, in most places I've been to, there were a lot of people who bragged about their income and connections. no offense, but as far as europe is concerned, the French seemed to enjoy that activity way more than the Brits... i don't believe it has anything to do with the country itself tho, it' might just be a certain circle of people or scene... Especially in the fashion world, where everything is about image and connections. Arent we all turning into unhappy materialistic humanoids nowadays anyway?
