maybe try posting 8x10's with a description your e-mail/phone number billboards in neigborhoods where people have some x-tra coin kicking around.. Making music in ableton is trendy, I'm sure 90% of the 20/early 30 somethings on the plateau would just love to brag about their private ableton lessons during morning coffee break at the office or better yet over a latte with a girl their desperately trying to impress.
I'm feeling 16 523? right now..

I would recommend a course. But if there's something specific someone wants to know in a lesson or two, I can do that also

I honestly can't see what some people's problem with this is... I know the software like the back of my hand, not everybody does, therefore I'm offering a service that might be useful to some, particularly DJ's who want to get into production but haven't used the software that much... I've taught it before for the Irish arts council, and everyone was happy...

man, never really thought that ravewave was so full of haters... Is it because everyone here is trying to act like they're the shit so to prove it, they're just dissing everything and everyone they possibly can to establish their superiority?... what's the shame in admitting that you could know more about something?... I've taught some really shit hot DJ's how to use this software, and they've benefitted a lot from it... so if you know how to use it, good for you... if you don't, and want to know more, then maybe I could help you...

that's all, it's a simple deal, I'm not trying to suggest I know more about music production than anyone here, just that I know ableton live pretty damn well, and someone else could benefit from that knowledge...

Don't worry Nell, people who thinks it's a great idea won't come out and "Oh what a great idea!" and ones who are bored post shit, Br34th3 told you... it's the same patern everytime, with different individuals about different topics.

nw pay no attention, cause if you post more than ten time the same day in your thread and you're not rich yet, whether you have nothin' to say or there's a problem :P

sp look around, not only on RW, and i'm sure you'll find a student.

...if it doesn't work you can kidnap a female dj and ask a ransom !! ;)

While some people could probably do with some crash course, unless you're an acredited abelton representative, you're just blowing smoke out of your ass right now. What you are offering requires no special knowledge, just that a person put enough time to get around a new interface. They real knowledge, the real useful stuff that will help someone put some music down, like chord composition and progression, signal treatment, session recording and mixing is not something you will touch in your "course". If you'd like to start an Abelton crash course blog or something that'd be a great idea, but I don't think you should expect money for such a small thing. We're all broke son... do like the rest of us and sell that ass on the streets yo.

If you want a "crash course" and don't feel like paying someone for their time, check out the the tutorial section on the Ableton website, but I get where nell is coming from... I figured out a lot of the features in live on my own, and it could get pretty frustrating. It would have saved me a lot of time to have someone around to answer my questions. There are also tons of little tricks in live that you only figure out with time and it is an awesome feeling when you figure something out on your own, but it also really sucks spending hours trying to figure out a problem that can be fixed with a couple of quick clicks, so if you want to go at on your own it can be really rewarding at times, but if you want someone to give up time that they could be using to work on their own tracks to help you out don't feel entitled to a free ride...

actually signal treatment, session recording, and mixing is something I could quite easily touch... as for composition, and chord progression, that's a whole different topic that takes years to learn, so I'd rather not touch that as it's a can of worms...

again, this goes back to the 'How could you possibly know more than me?' phenomenon that I've witnessed here... why reply if you've got no interest?

p.s. I was actually licensed by ableton to teach it in Ireland, do you want the name and phone number of the person I was dealing with?... like I said, it was for the irish arts council, a government body...

@screwhead - those videos are pretty good and have a lot of information... they don't answer when you ask them questions though, and they won't look at your projects and suggest ways of improving them technically or making them more efficient...

I'll give you some advice here, as someone who has made some extra money on the side doing this kind of thing (emphasis on MONEY ON THE SIDE, though)...

1) Make a specific list of what you can teach people.. eg. make a teaching plan of some sort..

2) Put an ad on craigslist, it's free so it can't hurt

3) put up as many examples of work you have done as you can.

4) Offer some free tips/advice to people to get them interested

5) send me a message on the site, as I may be able to help/get involved in this kind of thing.

The reason people are being critical is because everyone else probably thinks they can do this kind of thing as well, but they have no understanding of the art of teaching other people skills. Most people want to keep their skills to themselves. Montreal is a notoriously SELFISH city.
