To claim the world is logical, without proof, is not logical.
I Just ask one thing, (for the 4th time) this is my question...

Neoforms says"The world is in fact logical"

I say, that is not a fact, and needs proof to be a fact, do you have this proof?
Your sentence is false, nothing is fact without proof.

I have never attacked logic or science,
Only the mistaken belief that "the world is in fact logical"
If you have no proof that the world is logical, that is an assumption and goes against the scientific concept of the objective observer.

So is the world in fact logical?
If so it is provable,
Prove it or recant.
I'm feeling mont-realized right now..

This is sooo opened to interpretations. Check it, Quoting bush is hardly trying to make a point, he's an idiot. Quoting Einstein to prove a point may actually help get the point across. And quoting KMFDM, well, fuck, I like KMFDM, and I agree to some of the stuff they say. What the fuck makes you the "quoting" police any fucking way?

"You have nothing to say, and no way to say it, but you can state this in three languages."
-KMFDM in ya face.

Ugh.

Your conclusion is entirely false. Something does not become untrue when no evidence is provided.

Anyway, I'm not going to sit here proving the existence of logic. Really isn't worth my time.

How is it false that facts need proof?
Your second last answer was the only answer you've given to my question, Thank you.
Id like to point out though, valid as your point of view is, it is no more "fact" than the "theory" of evolution, the "theory" of relativity, or any other theory.

Did you ever study any symbolic or sacred math? they have all sorts of interesting unsolvable "problems" like the circle squared.
How about a heptagon? Since we can never verify the angles, does it exist?

Some british coins, maybe?

[ en.wikipedia.org ]

The United Kingdom currently (2006) has two heptagonal coins, the 50p and 20p pieces. The 20 eurocent coin has cavities placed similarly. Strictly, the shape of the coins is a curvilinear heptagon to make them curves of constant width: the sides are curved outwards so that the coin will roll smoothly in vending machines.

And there's a nice guide on how they're made, too!

the circle squared problem has been solved over a hundred years ago ; i guess you're refering to the problem of pi (that we still don't know how to represent it).

what exactly is your problem with a heptagon's angles ?

You're basically taking a role beyond yourself. I for one accept that I am only human and am bound by that. Taking on arguments that are bigger than yourself is pointless since you will never be able to prove or disprove it.

From a technical standpoint everything is falsifiable, just not falsifiable by us. We have finite powers to prove of disprove things and will always be bound by that (until we become more than ourselves).

Can I get a reference for the circle squared answer, I'd like to see it.
The heptagon angles are not measurable, to the best of my knowledge, thus unverifiable if the form is true, that was why the ancients considered 7 a divine number since the form doesn't appear in nature, only in patterns, 7 colours etc.

who gives a shit what the 'ancients' thought. you can clearly take a protractor and measure the angles on a 7 sided figure.

? You can measure 360/7 with a protractor? Clearly?
Measuring infinite decimals?
Clearly you are the superior of us, because I MOST certainly can not.

circle squared :
[ www-groups.dcs.st-and.ac.uk ]
[ en.wikipedia.org ]

the mystery around 7 has a religious part (god created eveything in 7 days), but its mathematical properties come from the fact it's prime. just like 3, which is also prime, and represents the biblibal trinity.
what you mean concerning the angles of a heptagon is probably that you can't really deal with them with only a plain ruler and a compass... but you can measure them in several ways, just like any simple geometrical shape.

i agree mysticism is appealing, but i think that it's a little dangerous to blindly believe things you can read on this topic... don't take so seriously such embroidered stories mixing science and logic with religion and beliefs
Update » flo wrote on Wed Apr 25, 2007 @ 12:07pm
no tool can "measure" infinite decimals... obviously, a protractor can't give a good enough precision for exact measures.
