For those who don't know about the 15 captures British sailors, I'm betting if they're not released this week, the US is gonna attack.
I'm feeling you up right now..

I don't think Iran, or the USA for that matter, can afford to go to war.

You think that'll stop bush from charging in? Look at iraq, he had no plan at all and he did it anyway.. I can totally see Bush doing something very stupid like attacking Iran..

they don't have enough money and besides, unlike Iraq, Iran has one of the best militaries and certainly navy's in the region and isnt afraid to retaliate, they are just trying to flex their boundry muscle, they've done this before, its not the first time, happenned back in 92...

Ufot-attack attack
I'm feeling flip the bird! right now..

yeah iran would put up too much a fight... the USA + Britain wouldn't be able to handle it on their own without major problems

honestly if it happens then the American people need to take a hint from their founders and storm the government and replace it, that's what the second amendment is for (the right to bear arms).

You guys keep saying the US doesn't have enough money to attack/bomb the shit out of Iran..

that's completely wrong. why? because all those weapons needed are already stockpiled. the only thing the US lacks is active troops and a draft would solve that problem instantly.

what you all forget is that the US military budget is more than that of EVERY other country in the world COMBINED. Iran would certainly put up a fight, but in the process, their entire country would be destroyed.

In any case, this is all irrelevant. If the US wanted to attack Iran, they'd get away with it if Iran does anything to those sailors.

There was massive disdain for the vietnam war, and there was the draft.. but guess what, that war lasted more than 11 years. public outcry is nice and all, but that doesn't stop it from happening.

well a similar incident occured in 2004 where 8 british sailors were kidnapped by iran. they were released after 3 days of talks.
plus, starting in 1979 (ending in '81), a bunch of american soldiers were held by iran for 444 days. neither of these 2 incidents precipitated all-out war with iran..
i cant help but think back to the northern border skirmishes eariler this year with hezbollah and israel. what hezbollah has shown their brothers in arms across the middle east basically, is that kidnapping the enemies' soldiers gets results, of a sort.

Thankfully the British are better diplomats than their American counterparts.

If I've learned anything from the Hezbollah/Israel skirmish it's that soldiers make a very patriotic sounding excuse. I doubt that this will lead to anything though.

The US wasn't looking to attack Iran (yet) in 2004. If Iran doesn't release them, I can see the US touting this as proving the Iranian threat that *must* be solved.. etc.

how do you know? how can any of us say with even an IOTA of certainty what the agenda of the upper echelons of the US military was in 2004?

posted by trey: "Thankfully the British are better diplomats than their American counterparts".

heh....some US marines already said that if it had been them and not the british involved in this incident, they would have shot at the iranians..

i also dont think this will lead to anything, but we can always hope.
