i dont think electronic music was invented at a given point in time, more like it evolved out of the flux of new music and culture surrounding the 60's 70's and early eighties...without these formative decades we might not have electronic music the way we know it today..

Is that why theyre there? or is it because the dominant paradigm told us to be there? Those raucous southern neighbours with lots of guns who got attacked (which, with their foreign policy, was only a matter of Time) and where they lead, the north feels hard pressed to follow.. This is not to denigrate what has been a bitter sacrifice for too many, but lets honour them with a modicum of honesty.. and lets remember that their president, former advisor of unocal, was installed by those oh so lovely boots that marched in to 'protect' them. Lets not paint ourselves the heroes before we clearly assess our motives. Also, ya know, it IS possible that these 'selfish' stereotypes you call hippies Dont do drugs. I have met a lot of people who it would seem would have the criteria for being a hippie, and have never touched a drug in their life (pot more often than not doesnt apply..). So I fail to see how these sober, bohemian, earth-loving ppl - who own next to nothing in some cases- are selfish.. or do we attack them cause its easy?..
I'm feeling you right now..

Electronic music was invented by Black Sabbath during an acid trip, but he was embarrassed about it and kept it in his closet until his son, Darude, stumbled upon it while stealing money for drugs. And he saw that was better than drugs...or that it was a better way to get drugs - the translation is unclear. The rest is history...his story.

...one hundred years ago you could be inside a synth... (telleharmonium)
...today, you can put a vst on a usb key, stick it in your ass and have a synth inside of you...
...one hundred years from now... gosh I dont think I really want to know what people'll be able to shove in their asses a hundred years from now

It doesn't make any sense how someone could hate a hippy for not following ideals that they never claimed to have in the first place. Like alxzred said.. he never claimed to be a hippy, he simply has long hair. The question is not why do you hate someone for their ideals, it's why do you hate somoene or assume you know exactly who they are/what they believe in just because of the way they dress?

and I can't believe I'm saying this to a group of people over the age of 12.

Why does everyone always feel like they're being assaulted by people minding their own business? Where do all these outragious claims come from? For fucks sake. Just because one hippy-looking person bothered you it doesn't mean all hippy-looking people are going to.

And to top it off, ideals belong in the abstract world of ideas, they are not real, nor can they be, for example, Ideally I am an anarchist, but in a world that so many ppls need someone to hold there hand to cross the streets, anarchy is impossible, it would degenerate into a gang ran world. PPLS are sheep that want to be led.

And the world that exsisted had nothing to do with the beatnicks, or the hippies or the acid tests?
Electronic music would have been acceptable by a pre 60's world or even concived by?
I would not want to be in a reality that followed the same pattern as the 50's 40's and 30's without that hippy tangent.
I really don't get the comment on how hippies hurt enviromental awareness, they started the ball rolling and now it's their fault that ppls don't understand?
shit I must be stupid

THAT post touch the bottom line of it all...

Personnaly, I like Psychedelic (take out the too-much-trance part) as much as Drum & Bass... the reason for that is that I'm a musician... I've always been (I'm 25 & I learned piano at age of 5 & I'm drumming since 12 years now)... just the music... that's it...

some people should read the lyrics of Pink Floyd - Animal - Pigs (three different one) :
Bus stop rat bag, ha ha charade you are.
You fucked up old hag, ha ha charade you are.
You radiate cold shafts of broken glass.
You're nearly a good laugh,
Almost worth a quick grin.
You like the feel of steel,
You're hot stuff with a hatpin,
And good fun with a hand gun.
You're nearly a laugh,
You're nearly a laugh
But you're really a cry.

You know for years the psy "scene" has (largely) avoided [ rave.ca ] has held parties instead of raves, and the users of rave have laughed at the psy scene.
Now over the last six months the psy-ppls have been signing up to rave in record numbers, me included.
Since I'm here, I've learned that psy is not the only "scene" in trouble.

Is it maybe this infighting between scenes that's killing us all?
Isn't this infighting against the "Ideals" of the electronic music scene?

P-L-U-R

One of the founding principals, the spirit if you will of our common comunities.

Maybe that is the spirit that will save us all from extinction, imagine a world where ravers are trashed more than hippies, where we all become "freaks"

Maybe we can avoid this by finding the noble spirit of our founding;

So I wish everyone

Peace

Love

Unity

and Respect

Maybe we aren't dinosaurs yet.

Honestly, I do make hippie jokes from time to time the same way I'll joke about kandy kids, even if I was one for a year. It's just fun to laugh at stereotypes. Most haters are either just kidding, or trying to give themselves an attitude online.

Oh, and like it or not, psy trance will have an influence in future genres of electronic music. It's too big not to be noticed.
