I guess when compared to other addictions fifty cents a day is pretty cheap. I know people who spend almost ten bucks a day on coffee alone but I still wouldnt pay a penny to participate in any game (regardless of the diversity of its online community) simply because I rarely have time to play any games as is it & there are so many other games which are similar enough and completely free to play.

In a way, I'm happy the PC I currently have is too bleh to run any games... Genre y lag sur Homeworld 2.
And my other comp is a Mac. Amazing, but no games on it ;)
So no chance of getting too addicted...

(but I'm planning on buying another PC just to game, so I'm fucked anyway)

the problem with video games as I see it is that it requires a lot of time and effort in order to beat it. You have to build up all kinda of skills and tricks in order to beat them. But once you beat them your left at the exact same place you started becasue you haven't actually learned any useable life skills.

If you take that time and put it into any othe activity you gain something useful at the end atleast.

Video games are used for entertainment purposes and not as educational tools. You could use the same argument with any game & say that skills developed in the process of learning a sport for example are comlpetely useless since they wont be useful outside of the sport's environment. Even if you havent seemingly learnt anything of great importance almost all games help develop stategy on some level keeping the brain active and forcing it to use creativity if nothing else.

Yeah agreed, but atleast with a sport you have something to show for it in the end. Like, learning how to play soccer develops good leg coordination, good stamina, and a hot ass if I recall a certain thread properly.

I think all three of those can very easily be used outside the sports environmeant, the latter especially ;)

With a video game, your basically just tryign to outwit the games creators. You get the same effect arguing with ian all day. A lot of modern games like gta and grand turismo don't hoenstly offer anything as far as developing strategy goes either.

but if one's to entertain themselves I'd probably much prefer seeing someone play a video game, then somebody watching some crap commercial tv show. Persoanlly I'd rather go outside and do things rather then play them out. I'd rather go out and play paintball then sit in my room playing counterstrike, or I'd eather go go-karting or bring my car to a track then play mario kart.

In response to the haters: why spend 17$ a month on a game when you could spend 300$ a month on weed!

Mario Kart was actually one of the games I really enjoyed for a long time cause ti was entertaining and financial profitable if you gamble at it correctly (which I suppose could be applied to any game). I see what you're saying about the lack of education value in most games which, if anything help the player develop strategy on a minimal level. Contrary to that they help increase hand-eye coordination which is why video simulations have been, and are still used (obviously along with other forms of physical and psychological training) to help train pilots, military personnel, as well as many other specialized professional in a variety of fields.

DUH!!!
because if you spend 17$ a month on a game you'd have to spend $600 on weed (and thats not counting the extra cash for ordering pizza or replacing the glass bong you smashed when you threw the controler because your last 13 hours of progress didn't save properly.....
like fuck scotty... have you never played video games before??

I don't think it prepares you for the real world of driving, I just thought it was an odd example to use as a game that offers nothing considering that it is a simulator(cept in arcade mode).

Heheh, anybody see Snakes on a Plane? That PS2 shit was fuckin funny.
