_Pheonix_I suppose by your definition I could say that I've experienced the attacks when I was young. Perhaps it would even be fair to say that I've experienced them more recently and have simply gotten better over time at controlling and supressing the anger and stress. Perhaps I was too intelligent for my own good as a child which caused me to stress over minimally-significant trivial things (most of which were beyond my own social control) but who knows for sure. Consequently I attempted a few counter-productive techniques of what I thought was stress/anger management. To say the least I'm actually quite ashamed of how ignorantly I acted. I was violent towards people and my environment, violent towards myself, bitter, resentful and sometimes even spiteful towards figures of authority, and even did certain things (many of which were subconscious & involuntary) to draw attention. The truth is that I tried relentlessly to forget parts of my childhood because the memories of stressful situations I had experienced would resurface and almost revive themselves completely in my current emotional state. I have since come to acknowledge that alot of people commonly react to stress in ways which are never justifed. Furthermore, these reactions should never be forgotten as they help us to understand who we are and provide us with the knowledge on how to deal with similar reoccuring situations. I've also come to understand that if you are grateful to have negative experience then you can learn from them much faster than if you deny or resent them. I think its very imptant that we all come to accept our imperfections and work towards bettering ourselves so that we can socially evolve as individuals and obtain a sense of complete enlightenment.

I couldn't agree more. Out of curiousity how big of a part do you think that acceptance of yourself, the world and those around you affected your situation? What role do you think that facing these things played in toning down your anxiety? Mostly the only help you hear for people in really tough times is "smile","be happy" but it don't mean nothing and the only other solution society ever comes up with besides "smile" is drugs and the entire world seems so completly convinced that for some people it's the only thing that can help, especially the ones who are taking the drugs. However, I would rather kill myself than live off of artificial happiness. It always pissed me off when people said happiness is a choice cause I don't believe that happiness is a choice, but I DO beleive that it is something that you have to earn(thru many choices over long periods of time) and I do beleive that true contentment is completely absent without acceptance and appreciation of all that's ugly as well as beautiful. As socrates said : "Death may be our greatest gift".

Working at Ubi was the most stressful job I ever had. Long weeks (60+ hours), next to no consideration (well, that depends: the first project I worked on? Awful. The second? Awesome).
I'm feeling miskatonic right now..

It's like they they in latin 'Nosce te ipsum' (Know thyself) and eventually you come to realize that acceptance is the true path towards happiness. We accept things through tolerance, but preferably through understanding. Once you understand what it is that makes you the way you are, you will find freedom. If you cannot understand why you are a certain way then at least learn to tolerate the imperfections and should you so desire to, change whats required in order to improve the condition you're in. Then and only then will you shed all regret and disregard any envy towards others who, (seemingly) have it better than you but are no doubt caught up with their own personal dilehmas...

Anyone who works 60 hours a week and gets paid for 40 is an idiot. they're exploiting you because you put up with it. there's no way i'd ever work overtime without pay. hell, if my boss makes me work overtime on any sort of regular basis i'd quit without question.

Uh? I was paid. Well paid, at that. 20+ hours of overtime pay is always good. The no consideration part is how the lead came after a month of intense overtime and said (near exact quote): "the news came to the leads a week ago that the project will be delayed for six months, so we don't need you starting next week. We didn't want to tell you then because you wouldn't have worked as hard".

It was a Friday afternoon.

Luckily, I still worked a couple days and knew some people enough to get shifted to another project but let's say it sucked. I wasn't working overtime for the cash: I was doing it to help out. I felt cheated.

But alas, such is life!
I'm feeling miskatonic right now..

the thing about that place is that even though legally you have the right to refuse overtime, you somehow just don't get the feeling that you really have a choice.. something about the way no one ever refuses, the fact you're on contract and the high turnover rate. You have no choice but to put up with it if you wanna stay and that's the problem, everyone wants to stay, everyone's really competitive. Working on small third party games is chill though, its the big ones that really turn everything upside down. People who work outside of game projects like human resources, I.T technicians, janitors, secretaries, etc etc don't have to worry about any of that stuff, the same hours are always required of them and they arent on contract, the same amount of them is always needed, etc etc, people who aren't affected by the games themselves just in keeping the office together. You can't go there to work on a project and expect NOT to be their bitch, it's absolutely out of the question, your confidence and skill won't get you anything and you'd also want the game to do well yourself and if the game is shit you know that it's still gonna be released when they said it would or before that. They don't give enough time for anything. Everyone loves what they do, they get exploited for their passion and if you don't have that passion you won't have the motivation to last.

yeah well, like I said you get exploited for your passion and if you think it matters who you are or whether you threaten to quit you have another thing comming. It doesn't matter how smart you are or how much you contribute. Try to do something about it, you'll get nothing more than laughter and if you don't wanna believe it, don't believe it but that's how it is. There's nothing you can do but keep up or go home.

I love my day job, I work for great people for a company that actually cares for the people who put in time for them, I get paid a very fair wage, have great benefits, and I am pretty much free to work as much or as little as I want, they give me my mornings off any time I spin the night before and it's a family run business. during the day I work for Canada's largest science store, with all kinds of cool gadgets, chemicals, lab ware, pretty much anything to do with science, and astronomy. it's a wicked good day job.
