so what yer saying is that you have no real knowledge to share on the subject of MIXING and youd rather just post production links that have already been posted in here 100x.

WOW... you really are a tool...

anyway... back on track... anyone have any scratching tutorial links?

i just picked up a scratch mixer and have been back into cutting it up and want some new tricks.

For scratching, the best bet is to get yourself a copy of the Do-It-Yourself Scratching DVD... Can't find a rip of it online, but I'm certain it's floating about.. Charlie's got it, so you could maybe copy it off him. Best way to go, step-by-step instructions and looped parts to practice, including some battle videos to practice with once you've started getting the hang of things.

Is that the one with Q-bert? I downloaded it but I haven't had time to watch it. I find that torrents don't have alot of stuff I'm looking for, so I use something called eMule, which takes a wickid long time, but it has stuff I actually want, like programs and sometimes obscure vinyls that people uploaded.
Its still p2p, but it doesn't have the cracked-out efficiency algorithm that bit torrents have. There's also parts on youtube, if you feel up to it.

Yeah it's the q-bert thing... It's pretty much required viewing for anyone who wants to get into scratching, though the DVD is better than ripped movies from it because of all the extra features.. You can change the angles to see the specific hands, cut out the beat or the scratching to hear specific parts, the lessons loop at certain points so that you can keep practicing the one scratch..

For learning to scratch, DIY Scratching is pretty much as essential as having decks and a mixer.

I PUBLICLY AM SORRY ABOUT ANY MIDDLE THUM FLIPPING TOWARDS U, I JUST READ BCRAP,
PAGES AFTER PAGES HERE JUST TO GET TO THE POINT, and then again its how i normally

yeah I think the problem is one table is a 1200, but the other is some piece of shit (these are noahs tables I'm using, so they are probably clogged with dog hair and AIDS from the punk party last week). I had most of the flutter problem with a disco record, so it's very possible it was just the natural suckiness of human rhythm messing it up for me.

yeah a lot of disco was human drummers.. can't expect 'em to be perfect, but as long as you're not trying to ride the mix too long they should be steady enough for a short mix.

i've been reading alot about "key clashing" lately and its acctually pretty hard to find a good accurate read on it...

i've read on some sites written by random dj's that state frequencys in the same key cause phasing and some sites state the opposite.

i play mostly by ear and i'm not trained so i'm a bad judge when it comes to theory... but i did find this chart on how to overlay keys in perfect harmony....

I DID , THEIR CALLED >>>> TONNETZ

I'm sure you already sorted it out by now...
but the reason you found discrepancies between sites regarding phasing is because when two waves with the same frequency collide, they can either...

1) join and have double the amplitude of the original wave, also known as constructive interference,
which means the sound will be twice as loud.

2)or they can collide perfectly so they cancel each other out, where the crest of one wave ends up on top of the trough of the other wave, and as a result you don't hear anything. This is destructive interference.

I suppose if you have 2 of the same vinyls you could do this on purpose...but its more likely that you would just get a combination of the two and probably wouldn't sound that great. The loudness(amplitude) would have to be the exact same as well, not only the pitch, for all of the noise to cancel. This is pretty much all useless theory though...unless you need to pass physics.

I think what he was refering to was more along the lines of mixing songs that are in the same key, like a chord progression.

yup i kinda got that, blending two records at some point is like shoving two bands
warp speed toward one and other, hehe, i shurely see the cello guy coming on hard,

so we have to be shure the doesnt trip on the other band(s) (ochestra?!) and totally ripp
the place by himself. this is what i got from the cancelling basses,

i thend to think to it there is a complete world rite in there on those basses going "PRffllllluu___ffPOOF"

you guys checked for tonnetz? thats kinda real crazy someone would crunch that up... i hope u find it
pretty psychadellic like i did :)

Soo too a cancellin phase will always "try" to cancel, as same as a slamming bass or sound has movement,
will always try to break free... we create lil "athmospheric SIMS people" loll

:D

He did go on to talk about mixing tracks with complimentary keys, which is something else entirely,
but I've always thought the word phasing referred to when the bass "jumps around" when you mix tracks in the same key, especially when you are playing with two of the same vinyls. Phasing, in this sense at least, is caused by interference.
