Selling tickets isn't illegal at all. But if you do sell tickets, the venue itself must have all the valid permits for the kind of event you are throwing. Yes raves are illegal. In order to have a legal rave the venue has to have a permit to throw an all-night event which nobody has except for afterhouse and the Bingo Hall. Selling anything without declaring it is illegal. Period. |

And, as for taxes, I've run small businesses years ago and, no, you don't need a tax number if you have less than 30k$ of revenues. As for declaring revenues, people that are throwing a party, as a company, should include all revenus/loss in their taxes declaration each year, if they don't, they are the one to blame, not the fact of throwing a rave. Raves are not illegal. Venues that serve alcohol need to obey some laws from the Régie des courses, jeux et alcools, which gives the alcohol permits. If a venue has an alcohol permit, the venue need to get a special permit each time it want to do all-night events, even if no alcohol will be served. This permit is quite bureaucratic and "hard" to get, you need to get it months before your event. Raves are not illegals, venues might not have the right permits for this kind of event. |

| Coolness: 92235 | exactly, you have to declare everything you made even if you don't pay anything on it, just like any other time with any other kind of tax as I just said. As well as renting a venue with a license as I just said. A venue doesn't need to get a permit for every single event, they can get a permit as a business to stay open until a certain time. If you go to the Bingo Hall or an afterhours you don't have to get a special permit just for that event, they already have everything. Callign something a rave is nto illegal but everything else about a rave is and if you try to get a permit saying you want to throw a "rave", good luck! |

 Coolness: 47985 | Before there was the internet, and legal "raves" i guess, people used lots of strategies to get word out about an event without people knowing where they were going, like infoline that takes people to a place where they pick up a map to the party.
There's also groups like the electronic music defense and education fund ( [ www.emdef.org ] ) who fight these charges in court and just try to strategize politically in ways to gain support from outside of the scene that are equally interested in protecting chartered rights to privacy and public assembly, groups like la ligue des droits et libertes ( [ www.liguedesdroits.ca ] ), or even bloc pot, where there's obvious overlap of interests. or here's another idea [ rave.ca ] |

raves always were legal... that was the whole point of the "infoline"... before crack house laws and dance permits police neededa "warrant" to "search" and "bust" a party... police need 24 hours to obtain a search warrant... so by putting the address on the infoline the day of the party, the police couldn't obtain a warrant to bust the party. ant that my friends was a rave... and ravers were at the time "above the law" because they weresmart and really not doing anything illegal... now its just dumb bandwagon looser crack heads just waiting to get arrested or o.d... whichever comes first? |
