There are three houses built exactly the same. One is filled with cotton, the other with wood, and
the third with iron. One day an arsonist sets them all on fire. Sirens were loudly coming to the scene.
People were screaming. At which house did the ambulance try to put out the fire first?

you have 10 pill bottles filled with 10 pills each
all the pills weigh the same
except one pill bottle has contaminated pills that weigh twice as much as the others.. you have 1 (and only one) use of a scale
how can you tell which bottle has the contaminated pills in it.

(this ones an oldie)

if the bottle weighs twice as much, why would you need a scale in the first place? you'd be able to tell just by holding it..

BAD RIDDLE!!

got it. (assume that each pills weighs "n" )

take 1 pill from bottle #1
take 2 pills from bottle #2
take 3 pills from bottle #3
.. etc

chuck the combo onto the scale (55 pills total)

if the scale is 56n the bad pills are in bottle #1
if the scale is 58n the bad pills are in bottle #2
if the scale is 60n the bad pills are in bottle #3
etc..

You have three containers. One has only red marbles, one has only blue marbles and the third has an equal number of red and blue marbles. The labels on the containers have intentionally been switched so that each container is now marked incorrectly.
3 containers of marbles with incorrect labels.

Your job is to relabel the containers correctly. Of course you could just look in the containers to find out which labels match, but can you do it without looking into each container? Reach into any one of the containers and select one marble. Can you now correctly label all three containers? If not, select a second marble from any container. What is the fewest number of marbles you need to inspect in order to correctly label each container?

hmmmmmmmm... interesting concept.

Well, to begin with, you would select one marble from container one. From that marble, you can tell immediately which container it is NOT. (if you pull a red marble, it is not the full blue container)

But you cannot tell all three containers.

Pulling one marble out from each of the other two containers, you can tell with certainty, the correct label for at least one container. (if you pulled two blues and one red, then the full red container is the one the red came from...)

Now, to determine the label of the other two. I think you would have to pull out exactly 50% of the marbles from either of the two remaning containers.

I'm sure I'm missing something. But this is my initial guess...

if you were really lucky you'd take one from each and you'd get one red and two blue and you'd know what the red container was then you take from the other two containers untill you got another red.

here is good one my mother told me this one, this one is a question that is found on university science program entrance tests alot of the time

There are two rooms. One has three lights and the other has three switches. Bob starts out in the room with the switches. He is alone. He can not see the room with the lights. Once he leaves the the switches room, the door closes and locks. How does Bob figure out which light goes to which switch?
