Instead of protesting violence in the street by starting riots.. why not actually try lobbying the government to have stricter rules enforced on officers?

There's a right way to do things and a wrong way...

I've lived here my whole life and have never had problems with the cops. Plus hot cops, are well...hot.

Now the metro police, there are some real fucked up power hungry assholes. Not that I'm generalizing that all of them are, but the majority of them seem to be on some power trip.

yeah, i'll agree about the metro cops.. they're pretty much not real cops and wish they were, so when they get the chance they abuse their powers as much as possible..

That's why we grew a "superior than average pig" race...
that can walk and talk like us.

I always wondered if cops could actually digest bones and cartilege.

Yes, it's another role (police) that is played in society, where our ever-so precious NEED for AUTONOMY is sacrificed as a result.

WE are the PIGS that are being led to slaughter.

We necessarily do need to absolutely learn self-control, be autonomous, the existence and well being of the human species depends on it.

I do agree that there is police brutality in montreal. The existence of the police is a form of brutality in and of itself as wel.l.

I was lying on a picnic table, at night, in a park, and my feet were not even on the table. I hadn't been feeling well and the grass was wet. Cop comes over in a motor vehicle and orders me to get off. I sit up and ask him what the reasoning of why I had to get off. I just wanted to know why first. He took that as a defiance and came and pulled me off the table. As far as I am concerned I was calm, relaxed, and just asking why.
He, later, explained that it was for sanitary purposes, which I figured as much. But really, who eats directly on the picnic table and even if they eat on a plate,,, am I really that dirty-- my feet were not on it. I, personally, wouldn't mind eating on a table that someone was lying on. There's germs everywhere. The whole time he was running his motor vehicle. Anyway, he wanted to give me a ticket. He took my name, address, phone number. I told them I felt that it would go against my conscience to obey and then ask why. I never ended up getting a ticket.

Okay prob not brutality but it was very aggressive and you think that asking why would be encouraged.

Always had good experiences with cops. They are people too. You just have to treat them with respect. Most of the time if you collaborate and smile at them they wont even charge you for whatever you did.

This is a typically naive responce to the matter of police brutality, but is flawed in several important ways.

First of all, many of the typical police actions that the protesters are demonstrating against (such as racial profiling, violence towards street kids, etc) are already against the rules of what police are allowed to do...but who exactly do you complain to if you are the target of police criminality? the Police?!??! They obviously have an interest in protecting their own. Maybe a lawyer or reporter that is the victim of police abuse might generate the neccesary publicity to force the police to examine their own ranks, but what about society's marginilized? What chance do you think that a criminal investigation would be opened by the police against one of their members, based on the word of a street kid, a squeegee punk, or a sex worker?

Therefore, police KNOW that in dealing with society's marginalized, they have all the power and the victims of their abuse are utterly powerless, liberating the police to pour out all their hostility, violence, and contempt onto the poor and disadvantaged (whether in practices legal or not) without any consequences or accountability.

So that is what the protest was about. By trashing cars, yelling slogans, and vandalizing corporate businesses, protesters gained the ability to have their voice heard and to symbolically destroy symbols of upper-middle class (bourgoise) indulgence, which comes at the expense of the vast majority of people, supporting the power structure which enable the police to protect the assets of the wealthy, while brutalizing and harassing the marginalized, poor and disadvantaged.
