what is this real world you talk about? Is it not the same one, where almost everyone I meet in my city, in my generation, has heard or knows about 50 cents?! His name still holds a lot of weight probably more than your pocket holds even with your two cents in it.
Lots of people still buying his albums, lots of people still influenced by his style, for example. Mostly teenagers, I suppose....

yep, and in 2 years no one will remember a damn thing about him.

who remembers Elian Gonzalez? how about that asswipe Shaggy? People might have a name on their mind for a few months and be wowed by them, but unless they do something with their fame, they will fade faster than britney spears.

But then again you have to start somewhere -- I jsut don't think it ought to be from the particular to the whole.

Yeah, and if teenagers were a little like me at their age and get CURIOUS about just where 50 Cents comes from and what his background is, they'd be surprized to see he's been an influence despite the fact himself has been influenced by about 15 rappers before him.

Role model shmole model. He's been copy pasting everyone else and everyone else has been copying him. I fail to see anything remotely groundbreaking about this guy despite his inability to stay dead.

To me, rap died with gangsta rap. Stupid ass dollar store Casio drum machines, same lame ass sampled loops ripped off from about a gazillion tracks and so-so lyrics.

We are faaaaaaar from Public Enemy, Eric B & Rakim, Gangstarr and the likes. THESE guys were truly influencial, renegades and pioneers.

Not [ Mr.Ca ] Copy Fi'ty here.

In terms of moral influence I don't think he has any, but a small child might think they can take 9 bullets if he can. So maybe it won't affect their life choices, but when they meet a gun, in their more innocent of years, they might think they can take the bullet. Sort of like the situation where that kid drowned his little sister thinking she would come back to life like Kenny. It's not about shaping them as human beings but about what they believe is possible. This kid didn't have to think like a killer or have the consideration of one, he didn't have to want to be like one, all it was is that he believed she wouldn't really die. I don't believe in censoring that out though, I just understand why they wanted to censor this particular song over any other equally profane one. Even though they would want to censor it regardless of that factor, and without that factor I don't see any reason.
