I respect the people who line up there, it is a great tribute to Jean-Paul's legacy.

One should not disrespect other's beliefs, and he wasnt *just an old fart*.

And i am not christian btw

the heathens are coming indeed..

i was bored and came across this:
stats for 1991:
stats for 2001:

the only religious group that grew significantly was the group titled "No religious affiliation"...

canada's population grew by close to 3 million people, half those then fell into that "No religious affiliation" category..

interesting.

They all read the Da Vinci Code like I'm doing right now. Heh.

Yeah, never been a big fan of Catholicism and their retarded stance of the recognition of feminity ( no female priests in North America ? They aren't faithful enough ? WTF ? ) and their hate of gays...like they aren't real people. Where's the supposed " love thy neighbor equally " principle Jesus thought us ? Or did he say " love thy neighbour...unless he's a fucking fag " ?

John Paul II was a good man. It's what he represents I'm not too hot about.

He was a good man but his values were those of the church I just slammed, yes. You can like someone but hate what that person stands for.

That's the most amazing thing I've ever heard. I agree fully.

I love Hitler, he was a great guy. He just stood for some things that I hate, but it's not his fault.

I love Bush, too! He's such a great, funny guy!

Man, your reasoning for things fucking rocks.

Tool.

If he was so concerned with things like "crimes against humanity" then he would have an open stance on homosexuality. He's (well, was) a damn powerfull man, how many catholics are there on the planet? He's considered by them to be the next step down from god. Saying that homosexuality is wrong is like giving a green light to kill to all the gullible, stupid religious people.

This pope fought against authoritarian regimes all over.
Sure he was against homosexuality, but so is everyone else who is 84 years old and slightly religious. Hell my grandmother dislikes homos, but i still love her to death. life would be boring if it the only people who loved each other and got along were people who shared the exact same beleifs. And Jean Paul was always open to dialogue, even if he was old fashioned. You also have to see that the roman catholic church is a highly politicized organization. Usually, when a pope breaks from tradition, he suddenly dies of food poisoning.
JP2 ushered peace between catholics and jews. In a historically unprecedented move, he prayed in a Sinagogue. He recognized many orthodox eastern forms of the church that had forever been denied acceptance in Rome.
He had a deep respect and love for liberal countries.. ESPECIALLY Canada and Scandinavian countries. He actually told Pinochet to step down, and he did.

Look at the millions who paid tribute to him, are they all gullible, stupid and gaybashers? I think not. When looking at that crowd, you could see that the majority were young.
