| Coolness: 140805 | I guess that's normal. Alot of early dubstep producers migrated from dnb... Then again, alot of them also migrated from garage and grime. At this point it's all mixed up though. I'm seing more influence of dubstep to dnb than the other way around.
More and more I start hearing stuff that is unique to dubstep and not the same old formula borrowed from other genres applied over and over again... producers are moving away from the clichés of mixing genres and are using dubstep as a very wide guideline to make new original sounds... exciting times also this tune is amazing... |

There is some good in every genre. :) The problem with dubstep is that its become victim of its own success.Too many people are making dubstep, many for completely the wrong reasons, which in turn leads to an excess of crappy dubstep flooding the market, which in turn dilutes the music. Its like what happened to electro, back in the 90s electro was an underground style of music, you had labels like Rephlex and guys out of detroit making the stuff. I was actually one of the only djs in Montreal, along with Dj Luv and a few others that even bothered to play electro in the 90s, mainly cause pretty everyone else was playing techno, house or dnb. Then it blew up at the turn of the century and it was actually quite interesting until everyone jumped on the bandwagon and started making generic electro records which ultimately crashed the scene. Im not saying dubstep will die, but it will definitely not be as big as it is a year from now. Its like a big bubble waiting to burst I predict original breakbeat music (which is the roots of dnb and pretty every style of British urban electronic music, including dubstep) will make a big comeback this decade, at least in the UK. |

I dont hear the "fastness" in dubstep the same way I hear it dnb even though people tell me its the same tempo. Thats why I tend to listen to it as a "slow" tempo, if Im gonna mix other styles into dubstep I'd go from dubstep into hip hop into mumbathon (which I'm kinda of enjoying right now, not all of it, but the tempo I like :) into slow breaks and gradually speed it up to a 120 bpm where I can start adding house and faster breaks. |

| Coolness: 140805 | not sure what time signature has to do with any of this... one of the only electronic music tunes i can think of that has a different time signature than 4 on 4 is this at 2:14 till 3:10
Technically, that part would be 12 on 8 (compound time signature) which could still be written in 4 on 4 on a triplet grid. I've heard a couple of tunes that switch to a 12 on 8 sig but I don't think I've ever heard anything go into 3 on 4 let alone a more odd signature like a 7 on 4. Some people consider dubstep 70 bpm with a 2 on 4 time signature but I honestly know of absolutely no producer who does it that way... it's still just 140 bpm 4 on 4... also... dnb and dubstep are not at the same tempo... at all... dubstep is 140, dnb is closer to 175... did you mean drumstep?
